Role Product Designer
Duration Long-Term Contract
Location Hybrid - 4 days/week onsite in SE MI
Our analytics team develops data products, analytic software, and actionable insights that deliver value to the enterprise. The team supports a broad range of skill teams by applying critical thinking, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and optimization techniques.
We are seeking a Product Designer who thrives on complexity. You will not only design interfaces—you will design the end‑to‑end
Data Experience (DX) . This role partners closely with software architects, data engineers, and product managers to design components and experiences that power Ford’s future.
Key Responsibilities Collaboration Partner with systems and software engineering teams to ensure shared understanding and alignment Lead and coordinate communication throughout the product launch process
User Personas Document personas (job title, role description, experience level, goals, and pain points) Conduct interviews, JAD sessions, user research, surveys, and job observations Identify pain points, opportunities for improvement, potential benefits, guidelines, and objectives
Use Cases Identify and document product use cases
Requirements Management Identify, document, and review requirements to ensure best practices are followed (e.g., testable, not combined) Partner with product teams to ensure requirements traceability is established
Process Mapping and Optimization Map and improve processes using swim lane diagrams and value stream maps (VSMs)
Architecture Understanding Collaborate with architects to understand and, as needed, help design product, technical, and data architecture Assess how architecture impacts product characteristics and user experience
Evaluation Provide feedback and recommendations on proposed and presented products
Design Create product visuals, including sketches, graphics, and branding assets Develop prototypes, interactive designs, user flows and journeys, wireframes, and design boards Review wireframes with users to gather feedback and ensure usability and intuitive design
Usability And User Experience Conduct usability testing (heuristic reviews, A/B testing, use‑case walkthroughs, etc.) Ensure solutions meet requirements and adhere to usability best practices
Testing Perform application testing to validate that solutions meet documented requirements
Training Assist in the creation of training and enablement materials
Must‑Have Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Critical thinking, consulting, and decision‑making capabilities Knowledge of interviewing techniques User persona definition and user journey mapping Use case definition and requirements management, including traceability User interface design and development experience, including creation of styles and style guides Knowledge of the Veterans with Disabilities Act and its impact on internal and external Ford applications Working knowledge of WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) Process mapping and swim lane diagram experience Experience testing digital products
