Excise Tax Assistant

Duties The role of this Excise Tax Assistant directly supports the agency by providing para‑professional support to the Estate Tax Team.
Primary Duties
Register estate tax accounts.
Perform data entry to ensure estate tax return data is complete and available.
Maintain program data accuracy and upload estate tax documents/images into ATLAS.
Handle general mail for the estate tax team.
Upload electronic images received from customers.
Process, sort, and destroy scanned paper estate tax documents maintained in office.
Determine interest liability for estate tax and adjust returns with appropriate approval levels.
Issue final releases and close accounts not requiring audit.
Make preliminary collection calls, document attempts, and collect delinquent accounts through correspondence, telephone, or personal contact.
Provide up‑to‑date information to taxpayers and aid in resolving issues through telephone and email correspondence.
Telework Some remote work may be allowed, but this position will be expected to work in the office five days per week. Requirements may change in the future.
Qualifications Producing a High Volume of Work While Maintaining Accuracy
Maintain confidentiality.
Complete a large volume of items accurately and quickly.
Proofread written material, correcting grammar, punctuation, and spelling.

Knowledge of state tax structure and administration.

Two or more years in accounting, auditing, bookkeeping, banking, compliance, or tax administration.
College coursework in business or public administration, accounting, bookkeeping, or related field (substitution for experience).
