POSITION OVERVIEW & RESPONSIBILITIES The Mechanical Designer III plays a key role in the successful execution of projects, focusing primarily on the production of AutoCAD, Plant 3D, and Revit drawings. The Mechanical Designer III is responsible for producing quality construction documents and coordinating design work with other engineering disciplines. The successful candidate will also be expected to work within a team environment and collaborate with other project team members.
The Mechanical Designer - Level III position is an advanced role focused on taking on significant responsibility in design tasks with an emphasis on independent work. This role involves completing design documents for assigned projects, mentoring junior designers, and contributing to project management.
Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
Layout and design mechanical systems for assigned projects, including HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems.
Apply advanced mechanical system design principles (e.g., chilled water, steam, and other specialized systems).
Perform accurate design calculations and measurements.
Prepare General Arrangement Drawings, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), flowsheets, and construction documents.
Create 3D models and piping isometric drawings.
Perform design work and redlines on complex and diverse projects using AutoCAD, Revit, and other Autodesk 3D products.
Preview and review shop drawings.
Coordinate project design with other disciplines and all stakeholders.
Manage small projects with assistance from the project manager or key account manager.
Represent the company at project meetings.
Conduct construction observations including field visits, data collection, punchlists, and participation in field inspections/meetings.
Answer field questions and support construction-phase coordination.
Collaborate with others as a CAD and design resource; provide training and mentorship to junior designers.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Required
An AAS Degree in Mechanical Design/Drafting or equivalent work experience.
Minimum of 6+ years of work experience in Mechanical Design or related field.
Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit, including 2D and 3D modeling.
Mechanical/piping design experience.
Knowledge of building codes and industry standards.
Project management and leadership skills.
Experience in one or more of the following:
Agribusiness Process Plants,
Facility Manufacturing,
Food Manufacturing Facilities,
Central Boiler and/or Chiller Plants,
Biofuels Plants,
Chemical Productions Plants,
Mechanical Equipment / Skid Design.
Demonstrated proficiency in at least one specialized area: Plumbing Design, Piping Design, HVAC Design, Fire Protection Design, or General Arrangement Design
Knowledge of computer technology and specific areas of application, including MS Office.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.
Represent the company in a professional matter.
Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without the need for work sponsorship now or in the future.
Travel: May include up to 10% domestic travel.
Preferred
Experience in a consulting and/or construction capacity.
Field experience is desirable.
Working Conditions
Some work locations will feature the tough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment.

Compensation $41.00 - $52.00 per hour. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual qualifications, experience, work location, and education. This position is eligible for an annual bonus.
