Collaborating with the Supervisor and/or Design Engineer, you will create and verify 3D and 2D CAD drawings for industrial equipment, focusing on rotating machinery and combustion technology. Your role includes generating models, reviewing drawings, and ensuring design integrity and cost efficiency. Strong communication with fabricators, vendors, and stakeholders is essential, along with adherence to standards like GD&T. Duties involve checking production drawings and using 3D scanning and measurement tools, with required travel to manufacturing or customer sites.
Essential Responsibilities
Collaborate with Parts and Auxiliary Design Engineers to transform sketches into functional assemblies
Leverage a variety of CAD software tools (including Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, Geomagic, VX Elements, and Creo) to prepare, modify, and refine drawings
Utilize 3D scanning techniques for reverse engineering and produce detailed drawings using VX Elements, Inventor, and Geomagic
Examine and update drawings and bills of materials to ensure compliance with industry codes and customer requirements, collaborating with drafting teams to keep projects on schedule
Facilitate design reviews, perform tolerance analyses, and implement GD&T methodologies to enhance part functionality
Design efficient layouts for optimal equipment placement and suggest appropriate materials and equipment selections
Participate in meetings with customer's engineering consultants or relevant internal divisions to provide direct involvement
Confirm that designs meet the Company's safety and quality standards
Remain informed on standards, ISO procedures, and the latest advancements in CAD software
Requirements Mandatory Qualifications
Associate's degree or equivalent work experience. Technical Drafting or on the job training
2-5 years of experience designing machinery, one of a kind or prototype design preferred
Solid understanding of the following manufacturing technologies: Fabrication, welding, machining, casting. Cladding or Thermo spray methods a plus
Inventor, Geomagic, AutoCAD, Creo, or some combination
Must be organized and able to work under pressure in order to meet deadlines, manage multiple projects simultaneously and respond quickly to requests
Must have a valid passport and be able to travel when required
Understanding of mechanical design, manufacturing, and material selection
Sufficient understanding of GD&T principles and techniques
Must have a valid passport and be able to travel up to 25% domestically with occasional international travel to support project requirements such as field measurements or equipment layout/installation information.
Preferred Qualifications
5-10 years of machine design or equivalent experience
Knowledge of boiler, pulverizer, and/or combustion equipment
Demonstrated excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Demonstrated excellent analytical and computer skills including proficiency in use of Word and Excel
