Epitec is seeking an expierneced User Experience Designer to join our automotive client's team in Dearborn, MI. As a User Experience Designer, the candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping data experiences by translating complex data, systems, and analytics into intuitive, user-centered products that drive insight, efficiency, and decision-making.

This is an ongoing W2 contract with potential for conversion

This is a hybrid position in Dearborn, MI (4 days onsite)

Top responsibilities:

Partner closely with software engineers, system engineers, architects, data engineers, and product managers to align on scope, timelines, and delivery; drive clear communication throughout launch

Lead user discovery: conduct interviews, JAD sessions, surveys, observational research, and usability studies to understand real workflows, pain points, goals, and success criteria

Create and maintain personas (role, experience level, goals, pain points) and map user journeys/flows to inform the “Data Experience” (DX)

Identify, document, and validate use cases; translate findings into clear, testable requirements

Own requirements management: document requirements, ensure best-practice quality (testable, not combined), and establish/maintain requirements traceability with the product team

Map and optimize processes using swim lane diagrams and value stream maps (VSMs) to improve end-to-end user and data workflows

Collaborate with architects to understand and, when needed, help design product, technical, and data architecture as it impacts usability and product characteristics

Produce design deliverables end-to-end: sketches/visuals, branding elements, wireframes, design boards, user flows/journeys, and interactive prototypes

Facilitate design reviews with users and stakeholders; gather feedback and refine designs to ensure intuitive, usable solutions

Plan and execute usability/UX validation (heuristic reviews, A/B tests, use case walk-throughs) to ensure the product meets requirements and usability standards

Perform application testing to confirm functionality meets requirements and supports the intended user experience

Support enablement by helping create training materials and assisting with user adoption

Top Qualifications:

3–5 years of product design / product development experience (Designer 2 level)

Bachelor’s degree in a computer-related or design-related field (Master’s a plus)

Strong verbal and written communication, critical thinking, consulting mindset, and decision-making skills

Hands‑on experience with user research and interviewing techniques (discovery through testing)

Proven ability to define personas, map user journeys, and document use cases

Strong requirements skills, including requirements documentation and traceability

User interface design experience, including creating styles and style guides

Experience mapping and improving processes (swim lanes, value stream mapping)

Working knowledge of accessibility and compliance, including Veterans With Disabilities Act considerations and WCAG guidelines

Experience evaluating products and providing actionable design recommendations

Experience testing products (usability testing and application testing)
