Job Description Grace Presbyterian Church
is prayerfully seeking a Senior Pastor to lead us as a Christ-centered, Scripture-focused, gospel-driven congregation. We desire a shepherd who will preach God’s Word with clarity and conviction, provide theological and spiritual leadership, and walk with us in humility and compassion as we grow in grace together.
Responsibilities Preaching, Teaching, & Worship
Devote significant, protected time each week to prayerful sermon preparation.
Preach Scripture-centered sermons that are clear, compelling, and applicable.
Administer the Lord’s Supper and Baptism.
Teach God’s Word in a variety of settings as needed (classes, special services, etc.)
Plan worship services in collaboration with staff and worship leaders.
Lead the congregation in Christ focused worship.
Leadership, Vision, & Staff Oversight
Provide the session guidance in implementing vision and direction.
Keep the church centered on the gospel and rooted in sound doctrine.
Work closely with the session in decision-making, shepherding, and discipline.
Provide spiritual, pastoral, and organizational leadership to staff members.
Encourage, supervise, and support staff in their roles and ministry goals.
Foster a healthy, collaborative, grace-filled staff culture.
Provide pastoral care to congregants, including counseling and guidance.
Refer individuals to professional counseling when appropriate.
Visit the sick, grieving, and homebound.
Maintain a robust personal prayer life and devotional walk with Christ.
Lead the church in prayer at meetings and special gatherings.
Encourage a culture of prayer and dependence on God.
Officiate weddings, funerals, and other special services as requested and appropriate.
Congregational Life & Equipping
Equip members to use their gifts for ministry and mission.
Support and mentor lay leaders in various ministries.
Encourage spiritual growth and discipleship for all congregants.
Participate in key church events, gatherings, and ministries.
Be visible and accessible to the congregation in a healthy and sustainable way.
Administration & Organizational Leadership
Foster healthy relationships with the broader community, local ministries, and denominational partners as appropriate.
Represent Grace Presbyterian Church in public and denominational settings.
Moderate the Session and congregational meetings.
Supervise staff and volunteers as needed.
Complete annual evaluations and provide feedback to staff.
Perform an annual self‑evaluation and review with the Session.
Attend Presbytery meetings, keep current on General Assembly issues, and uphold PCA commitments.
Statement from the Session on Pastoral Relationship
The senior pastor serves as one among equals alongside the ruling elders on the Session, all elders belonging to one unified class of office. While the senior pastor as a Teaching Elder is specially gifted, called, and set apart for the primary ministry of preaching and teaching the Word, the Ruling Elders share fully in the spiritual government, shepherding, and decision‑making for the congregation. All elders, Teaching and Ruling alike, submit to the collective wisdom and biblical oversight of the Session, ensuring that Christ alone remains the true Head of the church.
Position Qualifications Qualifications
Is or able to be ordained into Presbyterian Church in America.
Five years of experience in pastoral ministry or equivalent.
Strong understanding of Reformed Theology.
Prefer a master’s degree from a Reformed Seminary.
Possess strong preaching, teaching, and pastoral care skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Humble and teachable spirit.
Commitment to the Westminster Standards, PCA Book of Church Order, Larger Catechism, and Shorter Catechism.
Being married is preferred.
