Role Overview
Miller Kaplan, a Top-100 CPA firm is seeking both an experienced Tax Partner AND a Tax Director to join a growing tax practice, serving high net-worth individuals, families, family offices, and closely held flow-through entities. This is the ideal position for a senior tax professional, who is in Big 4 tax now, near or close to making Tax Partner, and would like a better quality of life when they become a Partner, while still working closely with sophisticated clients, providing practical, technically sound tax planning and compliance leadership. It’s the best of both worlds.
The candidates will play a key role in client relationship management, technical oversight, and strategic growth of the practice. Deep technical expertise in the entertainment industry is preferred. The role also requires cross-department collaboration with the other departments within the firm, including the Business Management department.

If you live near one of our offices in Seattle, San Francisco, Denver or Dallas, you can work from one of those offices for 3 weeks/month, plus you need to spend one week/month in the Burbank office.
If you do not live near one of the offices above, you will need to move near the Burbank office.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as relationship contact for high net-worth individuals, families, and closely held businesses.
Provide technical leadership on complex tax matters, ensuring high-quality, practical outcomes.
Provide tax planning and advisory services related to:
Flow-through entities (partnerships, LLCs, S corporations)
Multi-state tax issues
Charitable giving and wealth transfer planning
Business transitions and succession planning
Oversee and review complex individual, trust, estate, and entity tax returns.
Improve and maintain consistent tax policies, procedures, and quality control standards.
Collaborate with client advisors, including attorneys, wealth managers, and business managers.
Lead, mentor, and support tax managers, seniors, and associates fostering technical excellence and professional growth.
Contribute to practice growth through client development, referrals, and active collaboration with other departments within the firm.
Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance team culture, including a commitment to regular in-office availability (Burbank, CA).
Maintain oversight of engagement risk, quality control, and client satisfaction.
Required Qualifications
Active CPA license or Bar license.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
10+ years of experience serving High Net Worth individuals (HNWI) and flow-through entities.
Experience as a Partner, Director, or Senior Manager ready for partner-level responsibilities.
Demonstrated expertise of federal, state, and local taxation for individuals, trusts, estates, closely held businesses, and pass-through entities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and team members.
Proven ability to manage complex engagements and exercise professional judgment with respect to high-risk or high-visibility tax matters.
Demonstrated experience in client development, relationship expansion, and practice growth.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Taxation, J.D., or LL.M. in Taxation.
Prior experience in the entertainment industry.
Media, technology, or professional services experience.
International tax experience.
Prior experience leading a department or teams.
The individual will join a team of very high-performing, successful tax partners located in our Los Angeles (Burbank), San Francisco and Sun Valley offices. The firm also maintain offices in Seattle, Dallas and Denver.
