Job Title Content Creator

Physical Location Kent Campus - Kent, OH

Salary $59,961 - $73,182

Basic Function Capture, edit and produce visual and multimedia storytelling elements that emphasize Kent State’s commitment to access, equity and opportunity and the university’s distinctiveness and strategic positioning. Provide written content support as needed to complement multimedia assets and support digital communication objectives. Reports to designated supervisor.

Examples of Duties

Produce compelling, audience-focused video and multimedia content from concept development through post‑production that supports institutional storytelling, marketing initiatives, and digital engagement across platforms.

Capture relatable photography that authentically reflects the assigned student audience and supports institutional storytelling and engagement efforts.

Record and edit audio content including interviews, podcasts, and sound elements for multimedia packages.

Operate video cameras, lighting equipment, audio recording devices, and other production equipment to professional standards.

Transport production equipment.

Edit video content using industry‑standard software to create polished, engaging final products.

Collaborate with colleagues within the Division of University Communications and Marketing, throughout the university and across the globe to increase audience engagement and elevate brand reputation.

May supervise student employees.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Position‑Specific Areas May Include

Employees assigned to Student Audiences may be responsible for:

Produce compelling short‑form video content optimized for student‑preferred social media platforms.

Create vertical video content, stories, and platform‑native multimedia formats that align with student consumption patterns.

Identify compelling student stories and experiences that resonate with prospective and current student audiences.

Employees assigned to Non‑Traditional Students may be responsible for:

Produce compelling video content specifically designed for non‑traditional student audiences including adult learners, transfer students, military‑affiliated students, online students and international students.

Create vertical video content, LinkedIn‑optimized video, and platform‑native multimedia formats that align with non‑traditional student experiences.

Identify compelling non‑traditional student stories and experiences that resonate with prospective and current student audiences, and other university related groups.

Employees assigned to Editorial Content may be responsible for:

Produce short‑form and long‑form video content optimized for various platforms (social media, web, broadcast, events).

Record and edit audio content including interviews, podcasts, and sound elements for multimedia packages in support of audiences that include the President, Provost and other university leaders.

Create or coordinate graphic elements and motion graphics to enhance video and multimedia productions.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in film production, digital media, communications, journalism, marketing, or other related field of study. Four years’ professional experience producing multimedia content including video production, photography and digital content creation.

License/Certification Valid driver’s license and compliance with University’s vehicle use policy.

Knowledge Of

Video and photography production principles including shooting, lighting, composition, and editing

Audio recording and editing techniques

Visual storytelling and narrative development through multimedia

Digital content formats and platform optimization (social media, web, mobile)

Content management systems and digital publishing platforms

Associated Press (AP) style and professional editing standards (for supporting written content)

AI platforms for content research and multimedia enhancement

Skill In

Video editing software (Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, mobile editing tools)

Video and photography production from concept through final edit

Collaborating with creative teams (designers, content specialists, digital media specialists)

Adapting multimedia content for various platforms and audiences

Written communication for supporting multimedia content (captions, descriptions, scripts)

Written, verbal and interpersonal communication

Ability To

Multi‑task while managing multiple production projects and assignments simultaneously

Provide written support content when needed to complement multimedia productions

Work independently and as part of a team with shared goals

Demonstrate flexibility by making revisions based on feedback received

Travel from building to building and off campus

Work outside of normal business hours for event coverage and production schedules as needed

Preferred Qualifications

Experience as professional multimedia producer with emphasis on video production and photography.

Portfolio demonstrating strong multimedia production, editing, and photography across multiple formats.

Proficiency with common professional video editing software (Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve).

Assessments Asterisk (*) indicates knowledge, skills, abilities which require assessments

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements Position requires ability to transport production equipment and exert force up to 20 lbs. to move objects.

Working Schedule Monday – Friday 8 AM – 5 PM or otherwise discussed by your supervisor.
