Utilities Accounting Clerk Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; three years of customer service experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of customer service; of standard office practices and procedures. Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with the public; to interact with a variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds and of varying ages; to perform mathematical calculations; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required. Duties
Responsibilities include but are not limited to performing work of moderately difficult accounting duties involving the preparation, processing and maintenance of utility accounts in preparation for weekly billing. Prepare service orders for field and monetary adjustments for leaks, pool fills, vandalism and unexplained high consumption. Handle all portable meter accounts to include incoming applications, opening and closing accounts, ensuring deposits have been applied to the account, updating reads, and monitoring account balances for collections. Process notification of lost or stolen meters and lost equipment. Send written notification to account owners that meters need to be brought in for reads and past due reminders. Prepare all industrial accounts on file for billing. Ensure that each account has been read correctly and is ready to be billed. Take appropriate action when no reads have been received. Prepare all written correspondence for customers requesting leak adjustments, leak approval letters and unrepaired leak letters daily. Serve as back up for the Leak Adjustment Desk. Create manual billing and account corrections. Perform other work as required.
