Position Summary: The Director of Athletic Communications & Game Day Operations provides leadership in shaping and executing the communications, storytelling, and event operations for Goshen College Athletics. This position develops and implements a comprehensive communications strategy, overseeing all digital platforms, social media, and the department’s website (goleafs.net), while producing engaging content that promotes student-athletes, teams, and the overall brand of GC Athletics. The role serves as the primary media contact, managing relationships with external outlets and ensuring accurate, timely, and compelling coverage across all sports. The position also directs all home game operations, including staffing, scheduling, and event execution, with responsibility for recruiting and supervising both paid and volunteer personnel. This role oversees live stream operations and game day experiences, supervises student workers, and leads key events such as “THE LEAFYs Awards” and other special athletic initiatives. This director role collaborates across campus with athletic administrators, coaches, the department statistician, the Communications and Marketing Office, Information Technology Services and Media staff, and the Events Office to ensure seamless planning, promotion, and execution of all athletic events and communications initiatives. Required Qualifications: No less than 2 years prior experience required in an area related to Athletics: Sports Information, Sports Management, Sports Media, or Sport Communication. Proficiency in social media strategy, content publishing, and web management, with the ability to effectively promote and tell the stories of Goshen College Athletics, its programs, and competitive achievements across digital platforms. Demonstrated ability to supervise and lead game day staff in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing multiple priorities while maintaining flexibility and availability for evening and weekend athletic events. Preferred Qualifications: Masters preferred in an area related to Management, Sports Communications, Administration, Athletics or Physical Education Knowledge of national athletic governing bodies (particularly NAIA) and associated compliance manuals Understanding of communications, social media and public relations strategies Strong fiscal management and ability to manage departmental budgets Essential Functions: Communication – 75% Plan, develop, and implement a comprehensive communications strategy for Goshen College Athletics. Directly responsible for day-to-day strategic communications duties from all sports, including producing original and unique content across various platforms including goleafs.net and enhancing Goshen College Athletics social media presence. Manage the athletic department’s primary accounts on a variety of social media platforms (Facebook, X, YouTube, and Instagram at minimum). Creates and consistently updates a social media strategy, which best places Goshen College athletics in social communication. Also works to train and assist the coaching staff in managing team specific social media accounts, takes the lead in monitoring student-athlete social media activity, and facilitates education of student-athletes and coaching staff on the benefits of social media. Responsible for giving news sources the facts and representing the athletics program and college in a positive manner with the goal of increasing coverage within local media outlets. Oversees the production of promotional and marketing materials i.e., game programs, schedule cards, and schedule posters. Writes, edits, and produces press releases, creates feature stories and game day material for Goshen College Athletics. Responsible for the creation, proofreading, editing and publishing of a variety of internal and external communications, including feature stories, game/event recaps, season preview/ reviews, recruit signings, and other media releases. They will oversee the master communication schedule as well as manage student staff and interns. Maintains goleafs.net with emphasis on rosters, schedules, team news, history, coaching staff, forms, and interactive features. Monitor live stream operations for all home events in collaboration with Information Technology Services and Media staff, ensuring reliable uptime, effective troubleshooting, and seamless execution of broadcasts. Responsible for taking or outsourcing the capture of individual headshots, team photos, media days, action photos, and other photos related to the athletic department. Commitment to compliance with the Goshen College and the Goshen College Athletic Department policies and procedures, as well as the Crossroads League, the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference, and the NAIA Supervision and training of student assistants. Occasionally travel for coverage of select road or postseason events. Nominate student-athletes for awards for department, league, and NAIA recognitions. Lead the planning and execution of the annual athletics awards program, “THE LEAFYs,” including event logistics, program development, and coordination with campus partners to deliver a high-quality, student-athlete-centered experience. Game Day Operations – 25% Coordinate and manage comprehensive athletic event schedules across the department, ensuring alignment with campus operations and external partners. Direct all game and event operations, including assigning and overseeing game day staff (paid and volunteer), serving as liaison to visiting teams and officials, and holding staff accountable for execution of assigned responsibilities. Recruit, schedule, and fill all game day positions, establishing clear expectations and ensuring adequate staffing coverage for all athletic events. Lead execution of key athletic initiatives and special events (THE LEAFy Awards Ceremony, Senior Nights, Golf Outing), ensuring detailed planning, staff coordination, and high-quality delivery.
