Senior Marketing Associate
to join our growing team.
Punchbowl News’ primary focus is breaking news about power, the nation’s political leadership and explaining to our audience of political junkies how Washington works. We produce (at least) three newsletters each day, a daily podcast, dozens of events and more across our growing product suite.
Punchbowl News’ theory is that power in Washington emanates from the Capitol – and that’s the center of our focus. Our audience includes members of Congress, high‑ranking members of the Trump administration, lobbyists, top‑level reporters, media executives, Wall Streeters, tech and Fortune 500 executives and everyday political fans.

Job Summary Punchbowl News is seeking a creative, growth‑minded and data‑driven
Senior Marketing Associate
to help drive audience engagement, growth and messaging. Goals will vary for these campaigns and may include: driving list growth, converting free‑to‑paid subscribers, increasing audience engagement across a portfolio of products, boosting member value or internal stakeholder engagement.
The ideal candidate is highly collaborative, politically curious, creative, proactive and analytical with a growth mindset. This person should be just as comfortable executing on time‑sensitive promotional needs as they are in thinking about longer‑term growth initiatives. This candidate would ideally come in with experience working within a subscriber or member‑focused environment and be familiar with executing on marketing campaigns across multiple platforms and mediums.
The Senior Marketing Associate will report to the Director of Marketing.
Responsibilities Audience Engagement & Growth
Identify opportunities and brainstorm strategies to drive greater visibility for the brand and our products, from marketing activations at our events that build member value to new audiences we should get our products in front of
Work closely with the Subscriptions team to determine top targets for nurture campaigns, collaborating on ways to convert free subscribers into paid members
Propose messaging and target audiences for custom editorial products in tandem with the Director of Marketing and our digital ads partner
Gather information, write copy and help design collateral for our sales teams, from product one‑pagers and testimonials to case studies and pitch decks
Social Media
Stay up to date on emerging conversion tactics, key company moments and trends in newsroom engagement, with a focus on finding opportunities to drive subscription and list growth across our social media channels
Manage our posting about events, partnerships and products on LinkedIn and think about ways to better utilize the platform as a subscription mechanism
Work closely with the Director of Marketing and our digital ads partner to help with paid social campaigns as needed across platforms like Reddit, Google and Meta
Engage in social listening to track mentions of Punchbowl News across platforms
Email & Newsletters
Help draft and send email campaigns as necessary, from our monthly Portal marketing newsletter that highlights updates and features about our legislative intelligence platform to promotions for a new editorial series
Write copy for marketing promotions in our newsletters that highlight our products, launches and important milestones
Research relevant target companies and offices for subscriber growth opportunities and lead list‑building efforts for key marketing initiatives such as Premium+ newsletter trials
Performance Tracking
Closely monitor marketing team metrics in real time, from cost‑per‑acquisition to pageviews and social media engagement, and recommend adjustments to optimize campaign performance to improve ROI
Create mechanisms for reporting out relevant data to stakeholders on a regular basis, such as tracking content that is effectively driving subscriptions for the editorial team
Qualifications
2-4 years of relevant experience (newsroom experience a plus)
Experience using an email service provider or CRM for emails and list creation. Experience with HubSpot is a bonus, though not required
Experience with organic or paid social media advertising a plus
Strong copywriting skills and ability to engage in marketing speak authentically
An interest in data and leveraging it to make informed decisions
Ability to thrive in fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environments
Excellent communication and cross‑team collaboration skills
Enthusiasm for politics, journalism and digital storytelling
A yearning to constantly grow and stay updated on marketing trends
Experience working within a subscription or membership‑oriented business is preferred
Design experience a plus, though not required
Compensation & Benefits The salary for this role is in the range of $75,000–$95,000. Final compensation will be based on scope, work experience, and relevant skills.
