
Boat Tour Guide

Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, one of the oldest historic gardens in the United States, is seeking a part-time Boat Tour Guide. This role is responsible for creating engaging, educational, and memorable on-the-water experiences for guests. Through dynamic storytelling, guided interpretation, and outstanding customer service, the Boat Tour Guide brings the property’s rich history, diverse wildlife, and natural beauty to life. This position plays an important role in supporting Magnolia’s mission and elevating the overall guest experience. The schedule for this role is anticipated to be every other weekend, with additional hours based on the needs of the business.
What you will be doing:
Conduct guided boat tours, providing accurate, compelling narration on Magnolia’s history, ecology, and wildlife.
Safely operate tour boats in accordance with all safety protocols, training, and maritime guidelines.
Deliver exceptional guest service by welcoming visitors, answering questions, and ensuring a positive and inclusive experience for all guests.
Highlight Magnolia’s three pillars—history, horticulture, and nature—through engaging storytelling and interpretation.
Monitor weather, water conditions, and boat readiness to ensure safe tour operations.
Perform pre- and post-tour boat checks, including cleanliness, fuel levels, and basic maintenance reporting.
Assist with docking, boarding, and disembarking guests safely, including those needing additional assistance.
Maintain knowledge of current programming, events, and offerings across the property to inform guests.
Support team operations as needed, including assisting with other guest-facing duties during peak times.

You have strong public speaking and storytelling skills and feel confident engaging groups of all sizes.
You have an interest in history, nature, wildlife, or environmental education.
You bring excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to every guest interaction.
You remain calm, attentive, and focused on safety in all situations.
You are flexible and available to work weekends, holidays, and during peak tourism seasons.
Essential Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods and move on and off boats safely.
Ability to assist guests with boarding, including light physical support when needed.
Ability to work in outdoor environments, including heat, humidity, and occasional rain.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of the South Carolina Boater Safety Course.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience as a tour guide, educator, or in hospitality.
Knowledge of local wildlife, ecosystems, or Southern history.
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
