THE POSITION The Community Engagement Manager connects the talents and time of the community to contribute to the mission of CES. Focused on attracting and engaging our volunteer base, this position works across a wide variety of stakeholder groups to build positive relationships with volunteers and ensure the right talent is matched with CES’s needs. As a growing organization, our approach to volunteer and community engagement is evolving. We are introducing new innovations across CES, such as appointment-based systems and the first refrigerated food lockers in the State of Minnesota to serve neighbors who cannot visit us during normal working hours and A.I. to increase operational efficiencies.
Robust training and development processes are essential to ensure a positive experience for volunteers, neighbors, and staff alike. Reporting to the Director of Development & Marketing, this position is critical to support CES’s mission.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Community Engagement
Build and manage relationships with community partners (faith, corporate, civic, and nonprofit).
Expand partnerships that increase volunteer participation and community support.
Represent CES through events, tabling, and community presence.
Engage key stakeholder groups and develop new partnership opportunities.
Lead engagement events and campaigns to strengthen relationships and increase involvement.
2. Volunteer Program Management
Lead and strengthen the overall volunteer program, including systems, data management, and program infrastructure.
Manage the full volunteer lifecycle: recruitment, onboarding, training, placement, engagement, and retention.
Drive consistent, mission-centered volunteer communications and stewardship to deepen engagement.
Ensure a high-quality volunteer experience through strong onboarding, training, and continuous improvement.
Track performance metrics and feedback to evaluate success and inform program enhancements.
Oversee group volunteer engagement, including program development, coordination, and relationship management.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in volunteer and community engagement.
Strong communication, relationship development, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work independently.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop positive relationships with volunteers, community partners, staff, and donors.
Experience with volunteer management software (e.g., Volgistics) or other development technology platforms.
Creative problem‑solving skills, excellent organization and planning skills, sound judgment, and the ability to make decisions.
Valid driver's license, car insurance, and vehicle to drive within the metro area.
Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
