Director of Project Management Office

Stoneridge Software, Minneapolis, MN, United States

Stoneridge Software began with the desire and understanding of what it takes to succeed in implementing business software solutions for the benefit of a client’s business goals.

As a 2025 Top Workplace Honoree, a member of the Microsoft Inner Circle, and an award‑winning Microsoft Solutions Partner, we have crafted a meticulous approach to project delivery and long‑term support.

We foster a flexible, remote‑forward culture with team members located across North America.

Our office locations in Fargo, ND and Minneapolis, MN serve as key collaboration hubs, and in‑person work is encouraged and at times required.

Team members enjoy continuous learning opportunities, personalized development plans, flexible time off, and inclusive benefits.

Stoneridge is looking for a strategic Director of the Project Management Office (PMO) to build and lead a consultative, outcome‑driven project management practice that enables profitable growth, predictable delivery, and exceptional client experiences.

This role goes beyond traditional project governance.

The PMO Director is a senior delivery leader accountable for how work gets delivered—project execution standards, financial performance, resource utilization, tooling, and continuous improvement across the consulting delivery lifecycle.

The Director partners closely with delivery VP leadership and client teams to ensure delivery excellence that scales with the business across enterprise and SMB client bases.

A Day in the Life

Establish and mature a consultative PM model where project managers act as trusted advisors to clients and stakeholders, proactively managing scope, risk, value, and outcomes.

Define PM role expectations, competencies, and career paths aligned to a consulting mindset.

Coach and develop PMs to operate effectively in complex, multi‑workstream engagements.

Embed PMs as strategic partners in client delivery.

Design and lead a scalable PMO resource model blending senior consultative PMs with tactical and administrative roles.

Respond to client escalation and provide project management on client‑facing projects.

Own PMO contribution to delivery financial performance—billable utilization, margin protection, forecast accuracy, change management, and scope control.

Partner with practice and delivery leaders to optimize resource allocation, balance utilization targets, anticipate capacity needs, and build systems for accurate backlog tracking.

Ensure PMs actively manage project economics, not just schedules.

Define and enforce delivery standards, playbooks, and governance models that scale.

Evolve governance to be rightsized and value‑driven, avoiding bureaucracy.

Apply consistent project initiation, readiness, reporting, risk, issue, dependency, and change control practices.

Lead the use of technology and AI to reduce administrative overhead and improve insight—automating status reporting, forecasting, documentation, and leveraging AI for meetings.

Partner with internal teams to select, implement, and optimize PMO tools and platforms.

Champion continuous modernization of delivery operations through smart tooling.

Serve as a key driver of process simplification, reduced friction, and improved cross‑team collaboration.

Use data and insights to identify patterns, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.

Lead retrospectives and improvement initiatives across projects and portfolios.

Continuously refine delivery models to support growth, complexity, and scale.

Partner with executive leadership on delivery strategy, capacity, investment decisions, and risk management.

Collaborate with practice leaders, client success, and sales teams to ensure delivery readiness.

Represent the PMO as a strategic function, not a compliance layer.

Key Success Criteria

Set clear expectations for a consultative, outcome‑driven PMO.

Drive predictable, profitable, scalable delivery outcomes through execution standards and governance.

Reduce administrative burden via smart processes, technology, automation, and AI.

Meet delivery financial targets without sacrificing quality or culture.

Position the PMO as a strategic enabler of growth that improves delivery maturity and client experience.

Define PM role expectations, competencies, and career paths aligned to a consulting mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Business, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.

10+ years of experience in consulting delivery, project/program management, or delivery operations.

Proven experience building or transforming a PMO within a consulting organization.

Strong financial acumen managing utilization, margin, and delivery economics.

Demonstrated success leading teams through change and operational maturity.

Experience leveraging technology, automation, and/or AI to improve delivery efficiency.

Excellent executive communication, influence, and coaching skills.

Consultative and outcome‑oriented mindset.

Comfortable balancing strategy with execution.

Data‑driven, pragmatic, and improvement‑focused.

Trusted advisor to executives and clients.

Strong people leader developing future delivery leaders.
