Position Purpose Plan, direct, or coordinate the transportation operations with an organization or the activities of organizations that provide transportation services.
Essential Duties Provides leadership for district programs and/or support services so as to enhance the effectiveness of schools, and thereby, the performance of students.
The Director of Transportation Services facilitates processes and engages in activities leading to:
The development, implementation, and evaluation of the pupil transportation program to meet requirements of district and building programmatic needs and the extracurricular activities program according to Board of Education policies
Application of state statutes, rules, and regulations related to transportation services and recommendation of changes in Board of Education policies as these mandates are added or modified
Development and dissemination of procedures for the emergency closing of schools and the coordination of these procedures with the COO
Coordination and communication of safety and emergency procedures and preparedness to transportation staff and school personnel
Database management and maintenance of the district map information in Infinite Campus for district enrollment analysis and boundary planning
Direction of the preventive maintenance program for all district vehicles
Prompt and thorough investigation of all accidents involving property damage to district vehicles and/or personal injury
Engagement of building administrations in problem solving issues related to student transportation, student behavior, vehicle routing and parking
Provision of school bus safety training program to ensure appropriate student behavior on school buses and school activities requiring transportation on school buses
Preparation, implementation and monitoring of the department budget to provide continuous economical, efficient, and reliable transportation programs to customers
Preparation and submission of all local, state and federal reports related to student transportation as per requirements
Timely submission of information to the COO concerning transportation plans and services
Updating of and adherence to Board of Education policies, department procedures and guidelines and other procedures as may be established by district administration
Supervises and evaluates staff The Director of Transportation Services facilitates processes and engages in activities leading to:
Provision of appropriate professional growth opportunities and training programs for personnel related to their job responsibilities and/or changes in policy or procedures
Full implementation of all Littleton Public Schools procedures and guidelines forevaluation of staff, including completion of annual performance evaluations for all staff supervised by the director
Ongoing and timely feedback to employees on the performance of their job responsibilities, enabling them to improve as necessary
Collection and analysis by staff members of feedback and other information regarding the impact and effectiveness of their job performance, including the degree to which transportation services are meeting customer needs that shapes professional growth goals and plans
Professional Growth Demonstrates the personal and professional growth necessary for continuous improvement of district programs and services.
Maintenance of up-to-date knowledge and skills related to practices and trends in the transportation services area
The collection and analysis of feedback and information related to effectiveness of performance of position responsibilities as the basis for professional growth/improvement goals and activities
Full and prompt implementation of recommendations for growth or improvement from the COO
Modeling for department staff of continued and purposeful professional learning related to position expectations
Collaboration Collaborate with other staff, parents and community members to establish and achieve district goals and priorities.

Involvement of all appropriate staff in the development, implementation and monitoring of plans to achieve district and departmental goals and plans

Close cooperation with Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources in matters related to salary determination and working conditions for the Transportation Department
Ongoing, proactive and appropriate verbal and written communication with schools, program directors and community regarding student transportation services
A relationship with building administrators, program directors, community patrons and staff of external agencies in which information is constantly exchanged, ideas for improvement are explored and monitoring of systems is accomplished
Education and Certification
Bachelor's degree or higher preferred
Criminal background check required for hire
Experience
Minimum of five years' experience in public schools administration and/or pupil transportation management, including planning, supervision and evaluation, application of information technology and leadership development
Commitment to the education of students as the primary responsibility of the district
Ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with district staff, members of the community and public agencies
Meaningful oral and written communication skills with individuals and groups
Commitment to efficient and effective use of resources; evidence of desire to apply creative initiative to shrinking financial resources
Knowledge of current practices and trends in the transportation services areas
Commitment to the application of technology in management of the department
