JOB SUMMARY
In 2028, the Olympic and Paralympic Games are coming to the United States, and Team OKC will play a vital role in that global moment. As the organization responsible for delivering Canoe Slalom and Softball competitions in Oklahoma City, Team OKC will showcase the innovation, hospitality and spirit of the American people while creating an unforgettable experience for athletes and fans alike. Delivering the Olympic Games is a team effort—one that requires creativity, collaboration, and exceptional leadership to bring the vision to life.
This Director of Transportation will lead efforts to refine, deliver, and operate venue transportation plans across OKC based competition and non-competition venues. This role requires complex collaboration across LA28 & Team OKC functional areas and external partner’s while maintaining credibility and ensuring key milestones are met. The ideal candidate should have substantial experience in large-scale event transportation and operations in high-stakes environments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Lead the development and integration of all transportation components within the Event Operating Plan (EOP), coordinating across Team OKC and the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games functional areas to ensure comprehensive, reliable, and scalable Games-time operations.
Collaborate with LA28 Transportation, Security functional areas, EMBARK, and local, county, state, and federal law enforcement agencies to align venue transportation planning with overarching security strategies and risk mitigation protocols.
Serve as the primary liaison between venue-level transportation operations and regional Games transportation systems to ensure consistent and reliable travel for athletes, officials, media, workforce, and key stakeholders.
Partner with Communications, External Affairs, and cross-functional teams to lead community outreach and stakeholder engagement related to venue transportation planning.
Oversee the strategic scaling of the Venue Transportation team, defining roles, recruiting key personnel, and coordinating workforce strategies with HR for paid staff and volunteers.
Prepare and deliver executive-level meeting materials, presentations, reports, and stakeholder updates for Team OKC, LA28 leadership, the IOC, and key partners.
Engage public agencies and government entities to secure funding, approvals, and infrastructure support for venue transportation operations.
Conduct field reviews, inspections, testing, and operational evaluations to ensure readiness and continuous improvement of transportation systems.
Ensure transportation plans prioritize accessibility, inclusivity, sustainability, and equitable mobility solutions for all Games participants and spectators.
Lead targeted outreach to underrepresented communities to integrate diverse perspectives into transportation planning and foster community trust and support.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
Possesses direct experience managing transportation operations and/or special event traffic management systems at the local or regional level.
Demonstrates extensive knowledge of transportation planning and operations with experience coordinating complex, multi-agency initiatives.
Applies strong business acumen, strategic thinking, and advanced project management capabilities.
Effectively prioritizes multi-stakeholder initiatives, empowers teams, and removes obstacles to achieve results.
Builds collaborative relationships and influences partners at all organizational levels.
Communicates complex technical concepts clearly in both written and verbal formats to varied audiences.
Analyzes data and produces technical reports, briefings, and executive-level presentations.
Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Shows a strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB).
Bachelor’s degree in transportation planning, engineering, urban planning, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
Ten or more years of experience in transportation planning, design, construction, operations, or maintenance, preferably within a public transportation agency capital program or similar environment.
Demonstrated leadership experience in complex, high-profile, multi-agency operational environments.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong organizational and self-management abilities.
Ability to travel independently with reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
Ability to lift and carry up to thirty pounds.
