Senior Building Performance Analyst

Responsibilities
Model and analyze energy/carbon use in buildings in compliance with program guidelines or code requirements.
Evaluate code requirements and propose interpretations applied to energy/carbon savings opportunities.
Perform life cycle cost analysis (LCA) of energy and carbon efficiency measures.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and sustainability specialists to integrate performance goals into building design.
Assist in developing and maintaining excellent relationships with existing and potential clients through project work.
Drive business development efforts by identifying new opportunities, strengthening client relationships, and supporting proposals, budgets and project schedules.
Serve as a thought leader and sustainability advocate for Populous at conferences and professional forums.
Qualifications Technical Skills
Proficient at energy modelling using IES-VE (preferred) and/or other energy-related software like EnergyPlus, ClimateStudio, DOE-2, eQuest, etc.
Knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, CA Title 24 energy codes/standards.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to interpret building drawings and mechanical system designs.
Knowledge of environmental rating systems like LEED, ILFI, Energy Star, etc.
Strong understanding of project documentation related to energy systems and sustainable design, including energy modelling, LEED and ILFI documentation, calculations, specifications, and architectural and MEP drawings.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to design teams and senior‑level stakeholders.
Comfortable taking initiative and leading efforts that shape and grow building performance as a business opportunity.
Professional Experience & Education
Accredited bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture, mechanical engineering, or other building‑related technical field required. Advanced degree in building science is preferred.
5+ years’ experience with building performance modelling or energy analysis tools.
Experience in data collection, analysis, and providing technical recommendations across diverse projects.
Strong understanding of building energy theory, principles, and practices, with proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Working knowledge of construction practices and terminology, enabling effective collaboration with design and construction teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in Building Science, Sustainability, or Energy Engineering.
Credentials such as Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP), ASHRAE High-Performance Building Design Professional (HBDP), or equivalent.
Experience working on high-performance or net‑zero energy/carbon buildings.
Experience with daylight analysis, thermal comfort and airflow modelling, and interactions between them.
Travel Travel will be required.
Compensation The projected salary range for this opportunity is $95,112 - $118,891 annually.
