The Work
The French Legal Translator is essential in providing exceptional translation services within the legal sector.
This role upholds the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse and involves various responsibilities critical to legal communication.
Responsibilities Key Responsibilities
Translate legal documents such as letters, reports, website content, posters, brochures, and general correspondence.
Ensure fidelity to the original content, tone, and intent of each document.
Maintain cultural sensitivity and clarity in translations.
Review and correct translations for accuracy and compliance with legal terminology.
Conduct comprehensive quality edits when required.
Adhere to established style guides and client preferences.
Protect the confidentiality and integrity of all translated materials.
Stay current with evolving legal terminology and best practices within the industry.
Assist with other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications Requirements - Here’s What You Need
High School Diploma or equivalent, with 4+ years of relevant experience.
A minimum of 4 years of experience in French translation.
Certification in one of the following:
Legal Translation online certifications.
CTP (Certified Translation Professional).
ATA (American Translators Association).
AOC (Administrative Office of the Court).
Membership to NAJIT (National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators).
Experience in settings such as:
State Department.
Refugee services.
Court or legal environments.
Familiarity with legal terminology.
Experience with publications is a plus.
Must be able to pass a background check, and may be subject to additional checks from clients as necessary.
Minimum Skills Required
Strong problem-solving capabilities.
Exceptional written communication skills.
Ability to respond promptly to client inquiries.
Highly motivated, capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
Aptitude for building relationships, both individually and within a team.
A self-starter who can work independently as well as collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a foreign language, linguistics, or a related field.
Reports to: Program Manager
Working Conditions
This position is on-call as needed, with notification provided at least 48 hours before assignments.
The role requires legal translation services within Washington State.
Capacity to perform tasks over extended periods.
Flexibility to work on holidays or outside normal hours as required.
