Minimum Qualifications Current student preferably in public or business administration or closely related field. Preferred Qualifications Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, Multimedia, Advertising or Public Relations. Job Summary The Marketing & Communications Intern will help execute the County’s communications plan and support the assigned department’s objectives. The internship offers the opportunity to create a portfolio of projects to showcase future employers. It is an unpaid, voluntary position; the intern may have a flexible or virtual schedule depending on the assignment. The intern must maintain a professional appearance and conduct at all times. Essential Duties Create marketing and communications materials including but not limited to fliers, press releases, social media posts, website posts, and other content. Assist with planning details of special events. Assist in raising awareness of the County’s services and programs. Assist with building a following on all major social media channels using organic and paid advertising. Develop and execute social media campaigns, research, analyze, and suggest new solutions to help reach our goals. Other assignments as needed. Preferred Skills Photography Videography/editing Writing Social Media Knowledge Graphic Design Broadcasting/Production Ability to work a flexible schedule, including attendance at various events weekends and after hours. Other Duties As Required By The Department Conduct special studies, research, and projects at the request of the department. Establish and maintain program and project files. Receive and resolve or refer citizen complaints to the proper authority. Screen incoming calls and visitors to determine necessity for call or visit. Screen routine correspondence for the department. Prepare correspondence and recurring reports. Read and review outgoing correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy and conform to general policy. Takes and transcribes a variety of dictation and correspondence. Establish and maintain working relationships with county officials, news media, and the general public. Arrange conferences or meetings and provide participants with topics to discuss and background information. Entrusted with confidential information pertaining to county matters under consideration and personnel involved. Coordinate participation at meetings, boards, special events, speaking engagements, and community events and committees. Assist with maintaining department’s appointment calendar. Keep and maintain inventory of office equipment and supplies. Keep and maintain records of office payroll and time reports. Perform other duties as required by the department. Travel within the county using personal vehicle at personal expense. Additional Information Knowledge of general office practice and business English, operating practices of county government procedural methods including computer keyboard operation; English usage, grammar, punctuation and spelling. Skill/Ability to quickly learn State laws relating to the department’s activities and operations; deal effectively with public and governmental officials; understand and carry out oral and written instructions precisely; maintain confidentiality; establish and maintain effective cooperative working relationships; read and interpret documents such as rules and procedure manuals; speak effectively in English; may be required to be bilingual English/Spanish; type 35 wpm depending on area assigned. Must pass a background check. Necessary Elements Of Performance Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance. Work well with others and participate fully in a team oriented environment. Interface with other employees and customers in a courteous and respectful manner. Maintain strict confidentiality.
