Key Responsibilities
Are you a creative professional with a passion for mentoring the next generation of digital storytellers? We are looking for a dynamic CTE Teacher to lead our Arts, A/V Technology, and Communications program. You will bridge the gap between the classroom and the industry, equipping students with the technical skills and professional portfolio needed to thrive in Texas's booming creative economy.
Instructional Leadership: Deliver engaging, hands‑on instruction in graphic design principles, digital photography, video editing, and motion graphics.
Industry Standards: Manage a classroom environment that mirrors a professional creative studio.
Certification Success: Prepare students to earn industry‑recognized certifications.
Work‑Based Learning: Facilitate real‑world projects, such as campus news broadcasts, event photography, or branding for local non‑profits.
Publication Management: Lead the full lifecycle of the school yearbook, from theme development and ladder planning to final submission and distribution.
Journalistic Excellence: Teach the fundamentals of ethical reporting, interviewing, news writing (AP Style), and feature storytelling.
Graphic Design & Layout: Instruct students on visual hierarchy, typography, and spread design using Adobe InDesign or specialized yearbook software (e.g., Walsworth, Jostens, or Balfour).
Photojournalism: Train students in action photography, composition, and digital image editing for both print and web.
Project Management: Manage strict production deadlines and budgets; oversee yearbook sales, advertising campaigns, and community outreach.
UIL & Competitions: Prepare students for UIL Journalism competitions.
Work outside regular hours: Will require work outside of regular school hours.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
Minimum of two to five years of full‑time wage‑earning experience in the graphic design or video production industry (required for certain Texas certifications).
Must hold or be eligible for a valid Texas Educator Certificate in one of the following: Technology Education (Grades EC‑12 or 6–12), Trade and Industrial Education (Grades 6–12 with appropriate work experience), Family and Consumer Sciences (specialized versions) or other relevant secondary certifications, Journalism (Grades 7‑12), ELAR Grades 7‑12.
Salary Range
State Base Plus: $3,000 above base stipend.
Recruitment and Retention Bonus: $1,000 - 1st year, $1,500 - 2nd year, $2,500 - 3rd year.
Yearly bonuses ranging from $1,000 to $5,000.
Competitive Stipend and additional days paid for work outside normal school day.
Benefits
District contributes $375/month toward health insurance.
$10,000 Life Policy.
District has a scholarship endowment for all students of WVISD of $2,600 for every year student is in attendance (33,800 for K‑12 student continuously enrolled).
