Public Relations Specialist 1

We are seeking a full-time Public Relations Specialist 1 at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will assist the Media Relations team with communication, message development, and administrative duties. Essential functions include supporting the team responsible for communicating with journalists and other members of the media to drive awareness of Garmin's products. You will identify and help grow relationships with media contacts and other product reviewers, podcasters, and YouTube influencers throughout the respective industries Garmin serves. You will develop and write engaging PR pitches to generate positive coverage for Garmin products and features. You will support PR strategies and programs that are aligned with the business' goals, including PR plans, product pitches, press releases, award applications, and company statements and quotes. You will maintain media database and utilize monitoring tools to identify new contacts, publications, and story opportunities. You will assist with the planning and execution of media events surrounding new product introductions, tradeshow activities, and other special events. You will collaborate with Garmin's Content Marketing and Corporate Communications team to develop compelling stories that keep Garmin in the news. You will work productively on deadline and respond quickly to time-sensitive media requests. You will assist with other PR needs as necessary, including monitoring the Media Relations inbox.

Basic qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, English, or related major. You must possess demonstrated strong presentation skills. You must have demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. You must have excellent writing skills and knowledge of Associated Press style guidelines. You must demonstrate proficiency in word processing and database programs. You must have superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality. You must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude, and work well with others. You must be detail-oriented and have the ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision. You must be able to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast-paced, and challenging environment.

Desired qualifications include experience in/enthusiasm for consumer electronics and activities associated with Garmin products and services. Experience with blogs and new media.
