
Director of Software Engineering

Optomi, in partnership with a leading insurance provider, is seeking a Director, Software Engineering to lead the delivery of high-impact applications supporting commercial business operations.
This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week onsite in one of the following locations: Hartford, CT | Charlotte, NC | Short Hills, NJ.
What You’ll Do
Lead and develop a team of senior software engineers and team leads across multiple application initiatives
Own delivery of complex software solutions aligned to business goals and customer needs
Drive engineering standards, code quality, and modern development practices across teams
Guide teams through an ongoing product transformation toward a more modern, product-aligned model
Partner closely with business and IT stakeholders to define priorities, scope, and execution plans
Oversee project planning including scope, timelines, resource allocation, and delivery outcomes
Support modernization efforts including adoption of AI tools for development, testing, and efficiency gains
Evaluate and implement vendor solutions as needed to support business capabilities
Promote a culture focused on continuous improvement, accountability, and strong engineering principles
What We’re Looking For
8+ years of software engineering experience with progression into leadership roles
Proven experience managing software engineering teams, including team leads and offshore/onshore resources
Strong background in application development using modern web technologies
Experience working within or leading product transformations or modernization initiatives
Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and engineering best practices
Ability to influence and collaborate across technical and business teams
Strong communication and leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working within Microsoft technology stack (.NET, C#, Azure)
Exposure to AI tools and technologies in software development workflows
Background in insurance or financial services environments
