Project Director

Position Purpose The Project Director is responsible for the day-to-day administrative management and oversight of the research operations. They will support community-engaged research initiatives led by the department chair focused on food, nutrition, and physical activity across the lifespan, with a particular emphasis on children and community-based prevention of chronic disease. This position will contribute to the design, coordination, and evaluation of community-based research and intervention projects in Providence and across Rhode Island, as well as assist in the development of national and international research collaborations.

Responsibilities

Community-engaged project coordination, evaluation planning and implementation.

Development of local and international research proposals.

Consortium development in children’s physical activity and health outcomes.

Coordination of multi-institutional collaborations (including a Rhode Island nutrition collaborative spanning Brown, URI, and partner institutions).

Stakeholder engagement.

Data collection and management.

Preparation of reports, presentations, and manuscripts.

The Project Director will function with a high level of independence and serve as a key contributor across all phases of study development, community engagement, data collection, evaluation, and dissemination. The position will work closely with the principal investigator and community partners to advance sustainable, translational public health initiatives. This position requires in-person participation in community-based activities throughout Rhode Island as well as ongoing research in Washington, D.C.

Qualifications and Competencies

Master’s degree in public health, nutrition, exercise science, behavioral science, epidemiology or related field (Ph.D. preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in community-based research, program evaluation, or applied public health research.

Minimum 2-3 years of supervisory/project management.

Experience working with schools, community organizations, or multi-sector partnerships strongly preferred.

Strong knowledge of community-based participatory research and program evaluation methods.

Experience in nutrition, physical activity, and/or chronic disease prevention research.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Strong quantitative and/or qualitative analytic skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Experience contributing to grant proposals and scientific manuscripts.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage diverse community stakeholders.

Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively in team-based environments.

This is a fixed-term position with a current end date of 6/30/2028, which may be extended based upon available funding.
