Midwest | Oncology EPM Scientific is partnered with a rapidly growing, commercial-stage oncology biopharmaceutical company to hire a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) / Senior Medical Science Liaison.

Our client is seeking a field-based scientific expert to support oncology healthcare providers and investigators across a large U.S. territory. This role is critical to advancing scientific exchange, supporting research collaborations, and helping shape Medical Affairs strategy during a key phase of growth for the organization.

The company is focused on the development and commercialization of therapies for solid tumors, including gynecologic oncology, with an expanding pipeline that incorporates targeted, combination-based, and cell- or immune-focused approaches. Position Summary: The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) serves as a field-based scientific and clinical expert, responsible for building and maintaining collaborative relationships with healthcare providers, investigators, and academic institutions. The MSL provides fair, balanced scientific exchange on investigational and approved therapies, supports research initiatives, and delivers insights to inform medical strategy across the oncology portfolio.

Territory:

IL, MN, MO, IA, ND, SD, NE, and WI Preferred locations:

Chicago, Minneapolis, and St. Louis.

Roles and Responsibilities: MSL

Establishes and maintains strong, collaborative relationships with key investigators, institutions, and oncology thought leaders within assigned territory

Provides accurate, balanced scientific education on disease states and company therapies to healthcare professionals

Enhances organizational visibility through meaningful engagement with current and emerging oncology leaders

Participates in medical education activities, including presentations to appropriate internal and external audiences

Coordinates with clinical sites to ensure appropriate scientific training and education as needed

Identifies clinical research and investigator-initiated study opportunities aligned with company objectives

Serves as the primary regional contact for investigator-initiated research, supporting processes from concept development through publication

Gathers and communicates actionable insights from the medical community to shape research and medical strategy

Maintains high scientific expertise through ongoing education, conference attendance, literature review, and training

Collects competitive intelligence in a compliant manner

Collaborates cross-functionally within Medical Affairs and broader internal teams

Completes required documentation, reports, and administrative activities accurately and on time

Responds to unsolicited medical information requests in collaboration with Medical Information teams

Senior MSL In addition to all MSL responsibilities, the Senior MSL is expected to:

Contribute substantively to publication planning, scientific slide development, training programs, and medical strategy execution

Lead national or cross-functional Medical Affairs initiatives and priority projects

Serve as a lead scientific contact for select external collaborations

Mentor and coach MSLs, particularly new hires

Support Medical Affairs training initiatives and advanced scientific education

Experience, Education, and Skills MSL Qualifications

Advanced clinical or scientific degree required (PharmD, PhD, MD, or equivalent)

Prior experience within biotech or pharmaceutical industry strongly preferred

Previous MSL or comparable Medical Affairs experience preferred

Minimum of 3 years of oncology experience; gynecologic oncology experience highly desirable

Strong understanding of regulatory, compliance, and industry guidelines

Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific data into clear, balanced scientific exchange

Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities

Proven ability to collaborate across functions and thrive in a team-oriented environment

Demonstrated leadership presence and scientific credibility

Senior MSL Qualifications

Meets all MSL qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of Medical Affairs MSL experience within the pharmaceutical industry

Solid tumor oncology experience strongly preferred

Familiarity with treatment guidelines (e.g., NCCN, ASCO, ESMO), clinical research processes, regulatory requirements, and reimbursement frameworks

Experience engaging with academic centers, cooperative groups, large practices, and payer-related stakeholders

Highly articulate and confident presenter capable of engaging diverse scientific audiences

Travel Requirements

Approximately 60-70% domestic travel required due to the size and scope of the assigned territory

Compensation

$195,000 - $240,000

The listed base salary range represents our current estimate for this role. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant skills and experience, internal equity, education or training, geographic location, and market conditions. In addition to base salary, the role is eligible for an annual bonus, equity participation, and a competitive benefits package.
