BJC Medical Group is seeking a visionary, physician leader to serve as our
Hospitalist Medicine Service Line Director —a high‑impact executive role responsible for shaping the strategic direction, clinical excellence, and operational performance of a large, multi‑market hospital medicine enterprise. This position provides leadership across multiple hospitalist programs, aligning hospital medicine strategy with system priorities while fostering a culture of innovation, quality, and growth.
Key Responsibilities Strategic & Service Line Leadership
Develop and execute a forward‑looking vision for hospital medicine across multiple markets
Align service line goals with BJC Medical Group and system‑wide strategic priorities
Identify opportunities for growth, innovation, and new care delivery models (including telemedicine and emerging technologies)
Guide program development, expansion, and integration across diverse markets
Clinical Excellence & Quality
Champion evidence‑based care, patient safety, and clinical standardization
Monitor and improve key quality metrics, patient outcomes, and performance indicators
Serve as a clinical thought leader and resource for complex care and decision‑making
Advance continuous improvement and best‑practice implementation across all sites
Operational & Financial Leadership
Oversee provider staffing models, recruitment strategies, and scheduling in partnership with operational leaders
Guide budget management, resource allocation, and financial performance
Collaborate with hospital and market leadership to address operational challenges and optimize performance
Ensure compliance with regulatory and organizational standards
Leadership & Team Development
Mentor and develop hospitalist medical directors, physicians, and APP leaders
Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and engagement
Serve as a trusted liaison between frontline teams and executive leadership
Support leadership development and succession planning across the service line
Data, Performance & Stakeholder Engagement
Track and analyze KPIs including LOS, readmissions, patient experience, and productivity
Provide strategic insights and regular reporting to senior leadership
Build strong partnerships with administrators, physicians, and community stakeholders
Represent hospital medicine in system‑level initiatives and strategic planning
Work Environment Requires frequent travel between markets and facilities. Flexibility to adapt to diverse operational needs and market dynamics is essential. The position is a 0.8 administrative role, with the remaining 0.2 clinical FTE spread across different markets.
Qualifications Required
MD or DO with board certification in Internal Medicine or related field
Minimum 5–7 years of hospital medicine experience
Minimum 3 years of leadership experience within a large or multi‑site hospitalist program
Demonstrated success leading complex service lines, driving quality improvement, and managing change
Proven ability to lead across multiple markets and stakeholder groups
Preferred
Experience overseeing large, multi‑hospital service lines
Experience with graduate medical education programs
Strong data‑driven decision‑making and operational leadership capabilities
