What Is the Opportunity? This position is eligible for a sign‑on bonus up to $10,000. The role is based 100 % remotely and may include a combination of mobile work and/or work from your primary residence.
Location Requirement This position services insureds/agents in and around Chantilly, Fairfax, Manassas, and Springfield, Virginia. The selected candidate must reside in or be willing to relocate at their own expense to the assigned territory.
Responsibilities
Under moderate supervision, handle first‑party property claims of moderate severity and complexity, including investigation, evaluation, estimating, and negotiation to ensure optimal claim resolution.
Complete field inspections of losses, capture accurate scope of damages, take photographs, and produce written or computer‑assisted estimates.
Use innovative technologies on a broad scale.
Investigate and evaluate all relevant facts to determine coverage, damages, liability, business interruption calculations, and liability under a variety of policies.
Secure recorded or written statements as appropriate.
Establish timely and accurate claim and expense reserves.
Determine appropriate settlement amount based on independent judgment, estimates, appraisals, and applicable limits and deductibles.
Negotiate with contractors and insured representatives within authority limits and convey claim settlements.
Write denial letters, reservation of rights, and other complex correspondence.
Assess extent of damages and manage damages using cost evaluation tools.
Meet all quality standards and expectations in accordance with the Knowledge Guides.
Maintain diary system, capturing all required data and documents in claim file activities.
Manage file inventory to ensure timely case resolution.
Handle files in compliance with state regulations where applicable.
Provide excellent customer service to insureds, agents, and other internal and external partners.
Recognize when to refer claims to the Special Investigations Unit or Subrogation Unit.
Identify and refer claims with Major Case Unit exposure to the manager.
Perform administrative functions such as expense accounts and time‑off reporting.
Offer multi‑line assistance for Auto, Workers Compensation, General Liability, and other areas of the business as needed.
Mentor and coach less experienced claim professionals as required.
Attend depositions, mediations, arbitrations, pre‑trials, trials, and other legal proceedings as necessary.
Participate in the Catastrophe Response Program, which may require deployment away for a minimum of 16 days (including 2 travel days).
Secure and maintain a company credit card.
Engage in resolution desk technical work and follow‑up calls on a rotational basis.
Perform physical tasks such as inspecting all areas of a dwelling or structure, climbing ladders weighing 38–49 lbs, walking on roofs, and accessing tight spaces.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
Two or more years of outside property claim handling experience.
Basic knowledge of Xactimate estimating system.
Strong interpersonal and customer‑service skills.
Advanced organizational and time‑management skills.
Intermediate ability to work independently.
Intermediate judgment, analytical, and decision‑making skills.
Intermediate negotiation skills.
Intermediate written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Intermediate investigative skills.
Intermediate ability to analyze and determine coverage.
Intermediate ability to analyze and evaluate damages.
Intermediate ability to resolve claims within settlement authority.
Valid passport.
Valid driver’s license.
Additional Requirements
Must secure and maintain a company credit card.
Acquisition and maintenance of an insurance license within three months of start date; ongoing continuing education credits as required.
May be required to travel away from home during catastrophe events.
