Job Summary: SCOR has created a new global facultative reinsurance team, to further our success in this market. Whilst facultative underwriting is not new to us, our focused approach will help secure our position as a key market in the industry. Creating this book of business, in collaboration with the wider Insurance and Reinsurance teams is where this role begins. Within this role, you play a key role in SCORs facultative property/ construction reinsurance offering, across the United States, developing and strengthening relationships with cedants and brokers and collaborating internally with peers and counterparts in the global SCOR organization.
As a senior underwriter for property/construction, you will support business development efforts, including business origination and ongoing maintenance of SCORs facultative offering to cedants and brokers, in the region. You will also contribute to the property/ construction line of business as needed. You support the achievement of the plan and contribute to the profitability of the cedant facultative transactions in the US and Canada and play an important part of the regional underwriting success. Your individual contributions help advance the regional and global cedant facultative ambition through sound technical and profitable underwriting. These goals require experienced underwriting and commercial skills to develop SCOR's market share and leadership position across facultative reinsurance.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Client Engagement - Support the development & delivery of the regional facultative ceding strategy within your line of business by helping through originate placements that align capacity and risk appetite requirements
Team Collaboration - Build strong, collaborative relationships with internal reinsurance & insurance colleagues to help generate profitable business to ensure SCOR is represented consistently to clients
Market Negotiation - Negotiate terms, pricing and conditions to secure and provide the best possible facultative reinsurance solutions
Portfolio Optimization - Assist in managing and renewing the existing portfolio of facultative placements, assessing placements against our risk profile, identify exposures and optimize capacity allocation
Analytics Discovery - Collaborate with analytics and risk modelling teams to determine optional facultative reinsurance needs based on exposure and loss scenarios
Client Management - Maintain constructive relationships with cedants and brokers, showcasing our position in the market, and additional value provided through our expertise
Operational Excellence - Ensure accurate and timely deal documentation, including reporting, reserving and claims settlements in conjunction with the relevant departments
Compliance - Ensure facultative placements meeting internal governance, compliance and regulatory requirements, firmly within our Internal Control Systems process and guidelines within the region
New Market Ideation - Stay informed on market developments, pricing shifts, and capacity changes, using this market intelligence to optimize Facultative products, timing and portfolio management
Desired Qualifications:
Degree in engineering, science, risk management, or insurance
Minimum of 8 years of relevant industry experience in U.S. facultative property and construction underwriting
Strong expertise in property and construction lines, including engineering and builder's risk programs; strong command of technical risk assessment, pricing, U.S. regulatory requirements, and market best practices
Proven proficiency in both experience‑based and exposure‑based rating methodologies for facultative property and construction business
Extensive experience building, managing, and steering a book of business through market cycles
Broad understanding of value creation, end‑to‑end underwriting processes, and related actuarial, accounting, legal, and regulatory considerations
Demonstrated effectiveness working within matrixed organizations and fast‑evolving international environments
Agile work style with a bias for action
Strong team orientation and collaborative mindset
Well‑established relationships with key broking and cedant partners
Strong negotiation, presentation, and marketing capabilities
Relocation assistance within the U.S. is available for this position.

Pay Range for roles performed in TX: $195,500-$264,500. NY: $218,000-$294,500 base salary per year. Actual salaries may vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, role and performance. The range listed is just one component of SCOR's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long term incentives. In addition, we provide a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, a retirement saving plan, paid holidays and paid time off.
