Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter - Zurich E&S

Zurich is currently looking to hire an Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter – Zurich E&S to join our E&S Property team! We are open to candidates working out of one of the following locations: Chicago, IL; Atlanta, GA; New York City, NY; or Dallas, TX. While this position will be based out of one of these locations, you will have the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. This role will require you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and to be in the office/market three days per week.

The E&S Property Underwriter will analyze and underwrite new and renewal business, regularly interacting and facing the market, under limited supervision, utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on assignments of moderate technical complexity, ensuring a high-level service to customers. In this role you will work with national wholesalers to drive growth with a focus on profitability.

This role will be filled at either an Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based on the selected applicant’s experience and skillset relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

Responsibilities

Serving as a customer industry advocate with a focus on improving the customer experience by understanding their risk and offering the best end-to-end solution for their insurance needs.

Using a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment, and pricing.

Leveraging risk insights, data, and models to drive informed decisions at point of sale.

Market-facing and production within the E&S Standard Property group.

Administering and monitoring underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations, and rating manual rules.

Working within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments.

Underwriting Specialist – Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area, OR

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area, AND

Knowledge of line(s) of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines.

Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.

Experience with Microsoft Office.

Executive Underwriter – Basic Qualifications

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area, OR

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, OR

Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree.

Experience in E&S Property Underwriting or Underwriting Support.

Strong negotiation skills and wholesale broker relationships nationwide.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Microsoft Office skills.

Compensation & Benefits The combined salary range for this position is $75,000 – $165,000, varying by role and location. The Underwriting Specialist range is $75,000 – $125,000 with a short‑term incentive bonus eligibility of 10%. The Executive Underwriter range is $98,500 – $165,000 with a Global Specialty Incentive Plan bonus eligibility of 30%. Bonuses and merit increases may also apply.
