The Commercial Lender is responsible for originating new commercial relationships and cross selling of existing clients throughout the Region. This position negotiates, analyzes, and coordinates the closing of a variety of loan types, including large, complex transactions, to individual Native American business owners, tribal enterprises, and tribal governments, in compliance with the Bank’s lending policies and procedures. The role involves proactive client portfolio management, exceptional customer service, and selling full commercial banking solutions to clients. Must be familiar with all aspects of the commercial lending process including loan structuring, cash flow analysis, collateral analysis, government regulations and compliance.

Fundamental knowledge or experience with utilizing federal government agency loan guaranty programs (BIA, USDA, SBA, DOE, HUD), New Market Tax Credit, 105L Lease Financing, SSBCI and other programs that help position the Bank’s lending solutions with Native communities is preferred.

Responsibilities

Participate in the business development activities of the Bank on a continual basis and regularly communicate with the Commercial Lending Team and Market President.

Identify appropriate prospects, create and manage an effective prospect list and pipeline, and perform activities to ensure growth in the loan portfolio.

Serve prospects and customers through a consultative selling, trusted‑advisor role to assist them in recognizing and tackling business opportunities and risks while maximizing our effectiveness.

Participate in the underwriting and documentation of credit as required.

Attend and present credits to the Directors Loan Credit Committee as required, providing thoughtful feedback to the committee.

Monitor the portfolio for credit quality, understand, detect, and report early warning signs of problem credits to minimize the risk of credit loss and maintain appropriate risk ratings on all loans.

Demonstrate a deep understanding of what differentiates Native American Bank from other banks and consistently approach lending to Alaska Native and Native American owned businesses and entities.

Demonstrate and maintain an in-depth understanding of the unique challenges faced by the communities we serve in accessing capital and resources for community and economic development.

Build and maintain relationships with organizations and agencies focused on providing solutions to community and economic development in Native American and Alaska Native communities.

Work with a wide variety of clients, including tribal government officials and other decision makers in tribal and small‑business entities.

Represent the bank at trade shows, conferences, and summits as required; travel to events and in‑person client meetings to represent the bank’s interests, including site visits and maintaining community presence.

Support the mission of the bank and core values of the organization while following established company policies and procedures.

Work with and support cross‑functional Operational, Credit, Community Development and Retail Branch teams.

Demonstrate sensitivity to the financial needs of historically underserved communities and the partners that serve them.

Perform responsibilities in compliance with all company policies, federal and state rules, and regulations applicable to the position.

Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Qualifications

Strong analytical skills.

Ability to manage projects and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment that meets production goals.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, and strong presentation skills.

Strong attention to detail and ability to understand financial statements.

Ability to travel (15‑20%).

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business or a related field.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in commercial lending, including large, complex transactions.

Experience or demonstrated working knowledge with Native communities preferred.

Strong understanding of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska Native communities and relevant partners.

Knowledge of community and economic development lending and utilization of federal government loan guaranty and other relevant programs.

Proven ability to drive a business development effort individually and as part of a team.

Experience implementing creative selling and innovative problem‑solving techniques.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift 15 pounds.
