Director of IT Medical Education Technology Overview

The Director of IT Medical Education Technology is responsible for the strategic leadership, planning, and management of technology services that directly support medical, clinical, and dental education programs. This includes overseeing clinical technology end-user support, simulation technologies, dental systems, and specialized educational platforms unique to healthcare education environments. The Director partners closely with academic leadership, faculty, clinical staff, and IT colleagues to ensure reliable, innovative, and forward-looking technology solutions are in place to advance clinical training, simulations, and patient care education. Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Planning Develop and implement a technology strategy that aligns with the mission of the health sciences units that support academic, clinical, and simulation-based learning environments. Act as a strategic partner to deans, department chairs, and clinical leadership to anticipate and meet technology needs in the evolving landscape of healthcare education. Collaborate with IT leadership to ensure support for infrastructure and related technology needs for clinical and educational technology environments. Represent health sciences technology in institutional planning, governance, and budgeting processes; manage vendor relationships for health sciences technology. Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and procurement for health sciences technology services. Medical Education Technology Management Work with the Assistant Director of Clinical Support Services and ECU Health partners on planning, design, implementation, and support of technology used in clinical settings. Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Medical Education End User Support on planning, design, implementation, and support for technology used in academic health sciences programs (Brody School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, College of Nursing). Partner with simulation center leadership to support integration of technology into health sciences curriculum and simulation centers; provide guidance and maintenance for technology equipment. Manage and support dental-specific systems in collaboration with dental education leadership and clinical staff; ensure secure integration with broader IT services. Innovation & Educational Support Champion the adoption of emerging technologies that enhance medical and clinical education. Collaborate with curriculum committees, instructional designers, and faculty to support innovative uses of technology in pedagogy. Ensure health sciences technologies comply with healthcare privacy regulations (HIPAA, FERPA). Operational Leadership Recruit, lead, and develop a high-performing team of technical professionals and academic technology specialists. Develop, manage, and monitor budgets, vendor relationships, contracts, and technology refresh cycles. Establish and maintain service level agreements (SLAs), standard operating procedures, and performance metrics for health sciences technology services. Work Schedule and Location The standard work schedule may require evening and weekend hours to meet operational needs. Employee must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the ECU main campus. Minimum Education/Experience

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Proven ability to lead change, foster collaboration, and develop high-performing teams. Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills. Demonstrated success managing technology teams and academic partnerships. Experience developing both long-term strategic and short-term operational plans, goals, and objectives, setting success metrics, and tracking progress. Experience supporting a broad range of technology needs within a college or campus-wide environment. Experience supporting and managing complex medical education technology in educational environments that include both educational and clinical areas. Special Instructions to Applicant
