
Executive Director

CJ is seeking an Executive Director (ED) to provide visionary and strategic leadership to ensure our operations, programs, and fundraising efforts align with our new mission. The ED will partner with the Board to bridge board governance and the organization’s day-to-day management, and support board committees (Governance, Internal Affairs, and External Affairs) in strategic planning, policy development, and major organizational decisions.
At the heart of this role is a deep commitment to collective power-building. We are looking for a leader who will collaborate with youth, staff, and board members to envision, build, and bring to life CJ’s new vision for a transformative youth organizing model.

Job Duties This role oversees fundraising, operations, programming, and board relations to support the organization’s mission. Key responsibilities include developing and executing fundraising strategies, managing donor relationships, and identifying grant opportunities. The position handles daily operations, financial tracking, administrative tasks, and supports organizational compliance. It also coordinates program implementation and evaluation, assists with volunteer and staff supervision, and contributes to strategic initiatives such as membership development. Additionally, the role works closely with the Board to prepare meetings, support governance processes, and provide regular organizational updates.
Skills Required
Strong nonprofit leadership and program management experience with increasing responsibility
Proven ability to manage operations, including budgeting, fundraising, and administrative systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (e.g., correspondence, newsletters, reports)
Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Collaborative leadership skills with experience working across teams and stakeholders
Commitment to youth empowerment and social justice (racial, economic, gender, environmental, and immigrant justice)
Proficiency or comfort with tools such as QuickBooks, Canva, WordPress, social media, and newsletter platforms
Work Schedule This role is Hybrid but must live within 1 hour driving distance of Charlottesville, VA. It is full-time; 40 hours per week M-F; occasional weekends and evenings. This position is currently grant-funded for up to two years.
Additional Info
3–5 years of relevant experience in nonprofit leadership, community organizing, or program management
Bilingual in Spanish/English strongly preferred
Lived or personal connection to immigrant or Latinx communities preferred
Experience with grassroots organizing or membership-based models is a plus
Familiarity with nonprofit governance, financial reporting, and 501(c)(3) compliance preferred
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed
Physical requirements include extended periods of sitting, standing, and occasional lifting (up to 10 lbs), with reasonable accommodations available
