Director of Development, Northwest & Southwest Region – University of Oregon Position: Director of Development, Regional Philanthropy (Northwest & Southwest States)

Location: Eugene or Portland, OR (two days per week onsite). The role averages approximately one week of travel per month (~10 trips annually) throughout Seattle, Denver, Boulder, Salt Lake City, and Las Vegas.

About this Role As Director of Development, Regional Philanthropy you will manage a portfolio of major gift prospects, focusing on gifts in the $100K‑$999K range. You will lead all aspects of the donor lifecycle—identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship—and develop and execute a regional fundraising strategy aligned with University Advancement and institutional priorities.

This highly external‑facing position requires frequent travel to build relationships, advance donor conversations, and represent UO. You will collaborate closely with regional teammates, central development, campus partners, and senior leadership.

Your Contribution Will Likely Include:

Fundraising & Portfolio Management: Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and drive all phases of the donor lifecycle.

Develop and execute strategic, individualized cultivation and solicitation plans to secure philanthropic support aligned with university priorities.

Proactively identify, qualify, and build a pipeline of new prospects through research, outreach, and engagement across the assigned region.

Lead donor meetings and solicitations, making compelling cases for support across university initiatives.

Travel within the region to engage donors, evaluate prospects, and advance giving conversations.

Develop and implement a regional fundraising strategy in partnership with senior leadership and regional team members.

Collaborate closely with other regional directors, central development, academic units, and partners (annual giving, gift planning, principal gifts, alumni engagement) to coordinate outreach and maximize donor engagement.

Represent the assigned region in development meetings, contributing insights and strategy to broader advancement efforts.

Build and maintain strong relationships with alumni, parents, and friends across a geographically dispersed region.

Serve as a visible ambassador for UO, communicating mission, priorities, and opportunities for impact.

Partner with faculty, administrators, and volunteers to connect donors with meaningful engagement and giving opportunities.

Ensure thoughtful stewardship and recognition of donors to foster long‑term relationships.

Set and achieve annual fundraising goals aligned with regional and institutional priorities.

Track and manage donor activity using CRM systems, ensuring accurate and timely documentation.

Support planning and execution of regional events and engagement opportunities in collaboration with advancement partners.

Contribute to an inclusive, collaborative, and mission‑driven team culture while maintaining high standards of professionalism.

Experience You Will Bring

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

3+ years of professional fundraising experience OR 5+ years of related experience (e.g., sales, business development).

Demonstrated success building relationships and closing major gifts or equivalent high‑value deals.

Strong portfolio management skills, including prioritization and strategic planning.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.

Ability to work collaboratively across teams and navigate a complex organization.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in higher education fundraising.

Experience working with volunteer boards or advisory groups.
