Job Overview The Director of the Center for Health Policy and the Law (the Center) will be responsible for supporting the Center’s work to study and demystify the important role that litigation and the courts play in health policy. While the Center supports research on a wide array of health policy topics, the Director’s portfolio will focus on litigation and policies on the Medicare Advantage program and lowering health care costs, especially in the commercial market.

Among other responsibilities, the Director will:

help support policymakers and partners by providing expert legal technical assistance;

track and analyze policy developments and relevant litigation, including by advising on the development of and contributing to the Center’s Health Care Litigation Tracker;

communicate the importance of relevant litigation to the public through timely publications, media engagement, and by otherwise serving as a hub for critical, timely information about health policy litigation.

Work Interactions The Director will report to the senior co‑directors of the Center for Health Policy and the Law at the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law. He/she will interact daily with these directors as well as the Center’s associates, fellows, and staff, and will collaborate regularly with other Institute team members.

Requirements and Qualifications

J.D. and 5 to 7 years of relevant experience required.

Significant legal or public policy experience, excellent writing and analytical skills.

Ability to research, evaluate, and summarize laws, regulations, and case law.

Working understanding of federal courts and related processes.

Ability to guide and manage junior staff and a passion for advancing domestic health policy.

Background in policies related to the Medicare Advantage program or lowering health care costs.

Experience with administrative law, constitutional law, and federal regulatory processes and procedures.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.

Work Mode Designation Hybrid

Pay Range $80,429.00 – $157,238.93 (based on candidate’s qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications).
