FULL TIME: 40 HOURS PER WEEK

POSITION OVERVIEW The

Senior Interior Designer | Design Development

is responsible for leading the design development phase of commercial interior projects, translating approved concepts into fully resolved, coordinated, and buildable design solutions. This role focuses on developing cohesive, well‑coordinated design solutions that balance aesthetics, functionality, budget, and constructability for commercial projects. Working closely with the Design Development team and consultants, the

ensures the successful delivery of high‑quality Design Development packages that seamlessly transition into construction documentation. This position operates with a high degree of autonomy and accountability and plays a critical role in upholding design excellence and technical rigor across the firm’s portfolio.

The

Senior Interior Designer | Design Development

will work independently and collaborate closely with multiple design team members to ensure the successful completion of the design development phase. Success in this role is defined by design leadership, clarity of documentation, proactive coordination, strategic problem‑solving, efficient communication, consistency, thoroughness and the ability to guide projects toward cohesive and executable design solutions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES GENERAL

Collaborate effectively with team members to support cohesive project execution

Comply with company templates, design process and presentation standards

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

Communicate and present to clients

Create, build and maintain professional relationships with current and perspective clients

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Lead the development and refinement of interior design concepts through Design Development and handoff to Construction Documentation and FF+E

Ability to bring abstract and creative ideas to life with the RFQ development as well as be able to track and maintain quotes and details of custom finishes, lighting, etc.

Produce and coordinate alongside Design Development drawings including space planning, design plans, elevations, sections, detailed interior assemblies, and design narrative

Direct finish palettes, material specifications, and lighting concepts, ensuring consistency with brand standards and project intent

Evaluate design decisions for constructability, cost implications, durability, and long‑term performance

Coordinate closely with architectural, structural, MEP, lighting, low voltage, fire protection, and specialty consultants to ensure fully integrated design solutions

Identify and resolve design conflicts early through proactive coordination and technical review

Lead value‑engineering and design optimization efforts while preserving design intent

Create design development packages for accuracy, completeness and readiness for construction documentation.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or related field required

5-10+ years of commercial design firm experience required

AutoCAD and Sketchup experience required

Deep knowledge of materials, manufacturers, and commercial interiors standards

Strong understanding of commercial building codes, ADA, and life safety requirements as they relate to Design Development

Bluebeam, Google Workspace, Procore, Adobe Creative Suite experience preferred

Multi‑family and/or hospitality experience preferred

High attention to detail and accuracy

Collaborative, adaptive and growth mindset

Exceptional communication, organization, time management, and follow‑through

Ability to work autonomously, make informed decisions, and manage competing priorities

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to stand, walk, or be on feet for extended periods during site visits

Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50–60 lbs as needed

Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform light physical tasks required during site visits

Comfortable working in active jobsite environments, which may include dust, noise, varying temperatures, use of on‑site portable restrooms, or uneven surfaces

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Annual Required Travel: ~20‑40 days to go to project site visits both in‑state and out‑of‑state (currently Southeast/Mid Atlantic and Southwest), plus 7‑15 days for company events and conferences, as needed

Must live within an hour’s drive of a major airport

Must be comfortable traveling by air for projects located more than a 3 hour drive

Must have a valid driver's license and maintain appropriate auto insurance coverage in accordance with company guidelines

Must have access to reliable personal vehicle available for travel to project sites and company‑related events

Ability to transport, by vehicle, samples, or project materials, as needed
