Director, External Reporting & Regulatory

A large, global operating company with a complex international footprint is seeking a senior leader to own
external financial reporting and regulatory compliance
across multiple jurisdictions. This role sits at the intersection of technical accounting, public reporting, and evolving compliance requirements. It is ideal for a seasoned external reporting professional who thrives in high-visibility environments, can manage complex disclosure processes end-to-end, and brings strong leadership and judgment to regulated reporting. The Opportunity This position leads the preparation, coordination, and delivery of all externally facing financial and compliance reporting. The scope includes traditional regulatory filings, statutory reporting across global entities, capital markets disclosures, and expanding sustainability-related reporting requirements. The role partners closely with technical accounting, legal, investor-facing teams, and senior finance leadership, while also managing and developing an internal reporting team. This is a hybrid role based in the western Chicago suburbs. What You’ll Be Responsible For External & Regulatory Reporting Own the preparation, review, and filing of all required public financial disclosures Oversee quarterly and annual reporting cycles, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timeliness Lead drafting of financial statements, footnotes, and narrative disclosures Coordinate earnings-related reporting with internal stakeholders Audit & Capital Markets Support Serve as a primary liaison for external auditors related to public reporting and disclosures Support reporting requirements tied to financing activities or capital markets transactions Ensure alignment between regulatory filings and underlying financial records Global & Statutory Reporting Oversee statutory financial reporting across international entities Ensure consistency between local filings and consolidated disclosures Partner with regional finance leaders to maintain reporting discipline Sustainability & Emerging Compliance Partner with internal teams on sustainability and non-financial disclosures Support governance, controls, and assurance around emerging reporting requirements Monitor new and evolving regulations and translate implications for leadership Leadership & Process Excellence Lead, mentor, and develop a team of reporting professionals Improve reporting processes, documentation, and internal controls Manage competing deadlines while maintaining high quality standards What They’re Looking For Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (advanced degree a plus) CPA required 8–10+ years of progressive experience in external reporting and compliance Strong background in public company reporting environments Prior experience in public accounting strongly preferred Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP; familiarity with international reporting standards Proven ability to manage complex reporting calendars and lead teams Clear communicator with strong attention to detail and sound judgment Why This Role Stands Out High-impact leadership role with broad visibility Exposure to complex global operations and evolving reporting standards Opportunity to shape reporting processes during a period of change Hybrid flexibility with strong executive partnership
