Medical Science Liaison (MSL)

role is a field‑based, customer‑facing, non‑promotional medical and scientific position within the Charlotte/Nashville area. The MSL’s key objective is to advance clinical practice within the assigned territory to improve patient outcomes. The MSL serves as a scientific expert in HIV treatment and prevention, engages with healthcare providers and medical experts, and executes all relevant activities in alignment with the medical strategic plan.

Responsibilities

Build strong scientific acumen and serve as a primary contact for medical and scientific inquiries in HIV treatment and prevention.

Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with external experts, researchers, and healthcare professionals.

Gather and relay field insights to inform product development, clinical trial design, and market strategies.

Develop and deliver scientific presentations and training sessions for healthcare professionals and internal teams.

Ensure all activities comply with regulatory guidelines and company policies, maintaining accurate records of interactions.

Act as a role model of ViiV’s culture and values, mentoring new or less experienced MSLs.

Disseminate important safety information as directed by Medical Affairs or Research and Development.

Interface with a wide range of stakeholders and adapt to evolving needs.

Assist in clinical development activities, including GSK and Investigator Sponsored Studies.

Attend national and regional scientific/medical meetings to gather medical voice of the customer.

Collaborate matrix‑wise with internal stakeholders in a compliant, One‑ViiV mindset.

Execute administrative responsibilities, including CRM updates and expense reporting.

Basic Qualifications

Advanced degree (MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, APP, etc.).

3+ years of clinical experience in HIV.

Stakeholder management experience.

Valid driver’s license.

Ability to travel 40‑60% by car and plane domestically.

Preferred Qualifications

HIV field medical experience in the US.

Proven track record of consistent, high performance within Field‑Based Medical Affairs.

Solid grounding in clinical, medical, and pharmaceutical science with demonstrated ability to assimilate detailed knowledge.

Experience evaluating and communicating evidence‑based medicine with strong scientific communication skills.

Leadership skills, business acumen, and successful project participation.

Demonstrated excellence in mentoring fellow MSLs and leading complex initiatives.

Experience engaging both one‑on‑one and group settings.

Effective communication skills.
