Interim Director of HR & Operations
for a mission-driven nonprofit organization. This is a
hybrid
opportunity based in
San Francisco, CA , with one required onsite day per week. POSITION OVERVIEW
The Interim Director of HR & Operations will provide steady leadership and oversight of internal operations during a key leave period, ensuring continuity across HR, finance, and organizational systems. This role partners closely with executive leadership to maintain effective processes, support staff, and manage risk-sensitive areas such as compliance and payroll. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, strategic leader who can step in quickly, stabilize operations, and guide teams with confidence and sound judgment. PERKS

Oversee and maintain day-to-day HR, operations, and administrative functions to ensure organizational continuity Provide leadership on employee relations, compliance, benefits administration, and HR policy implementation Support financial operations, including budget oversight, payroll review, and coordination with external accounting partners Manage and guide internal staff and external vendors, ensuring alignment and operational effectiveness Identify operational risks or challenges and elevate key issues to executive leadership Maintain and support organizational systems, processes, and infrastructure across teams QUALIFICATIONS
Strong background in HR leadership, including employee relations, compliance, and leave administration Experience overseeing payroll processes and supporting financial operations or reporting Ability to lead and support teams in a collaborative, fast-paced environment Experience working within nonprofit, public sector, or mission-driven organizations preferred Highly organized, solutions-oriented, and able to operate independently while partnering with leadership COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position offers an hourly range of
