Senior Environmental Manager / Associate Director – Renewable Energy

A leading renewable energy developer is seeking a

Senior Environmental Manager / Associate Director

to join their team. The role focuses on overseeing environmental permitting, compliance, and strategic guidance for utility-scale renewable energy projects, including solar, storage, and transmission infrastructure across the U.S.

The organisation is known for delivering large-scale projects while fostering a diverse, mission-driven workforce. This is a senior-level position ideal for professionals with a strong track record in environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and project leadership.

Role Overview The successful candidate will provide oversight across project development, construction, and operations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations. They will lead permitting strategies, manage complex regulatory processes, coordinate with agencies, and contribute to policy development to support sustainable project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Lead environmental permitting strategies for large-scale renewable energy projects.

Manage regulatory compliance processes, including environmental resource studies, permitting, and mitigation planning.

Develop standard approaches for environmental due diligence and advise on consultant selection.

Oversee agency communications and coordination with federal, state, and local regulators.

Review technical environmental reports and operational plans, including stormwater management, spill prevention, and species protection.

Contribute to project documentation, zoning applications, and marketing proposals.

Participate in industry forums, conferences, and symposia.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Natural Resources, or a related field.

5+ years of experience in environmental permitting and compliance for large-scale energy projects.

Expertise in federal and state environmental regulations (e.g., NEPA, ESA, CWA, NHPA).

Experience supporting construction and operational environmental compliance.

Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.

Self-directed, solutions-oriented, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Willingness to travel regionally.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resources, Environmental Policy, or Environmental Law.

Experience with air permitting and compliance for energy projects.

Background in utility-scale renewable energy project development, including solar, storage, or hybrid energy systems.
