Location: Remote – Veterans Affairs (VA) Department – Full Time
Experience & Requirements
Security Clearance Level: Public Trust (MBI). Military veterans encouraged.
Minimum 8 years of professional experience in SQL development and database management.
Experience with data warehousing solutions and complex database systems.
Proficiency in SQL programming and query optimization.
Knowledge of database management systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL.
Experience with tuning, indexing, and query optimization techniques.
Ability to write and troubleshoot complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers.
Familiarity with ETL processes and tools (SSIS, Informatica, Talend).
Understanding of backup and recovery processes.
Experience with database security, user roles, and permissions.
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell for database automation tasks.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
Attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality work.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Understanding of business processes and requirements gathering.
Ability to mentor and provide technical guidance to junior developers.
Advanced certifications in database management systems (e.g., Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Certified Professional) preferred.
Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or related field preferred.
Experience with cloud database solutions (AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database).
Experience with version control systems (Git) and Agile development methodologies.
Understanding of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) X.12, especially medical claim forms (837, 834, 277).
Experience with T‑SQL and high‑paced DevOps environments.
Experience working with remote U.S. based teams (not offshore).
U.S. citizenship required. Security clearance eligibility required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Establish database management systems, standards, requirements, guidelines, and quality assurance for database deliverables such as conceptual design and architecture.
Define logical database, capacity planning, external data interface specification, data loading plan, data maintenance plan, and security policy.
Consult with clients to translate business requirements into a logical model accurately representing the client’s entity relationship and data flow.
Develop the database framework to convert the logical model into a physical model, including creation and maintenance of schemas containing views, screens, tables, columns, and reports.
Recommend optimizations to maximize performance, support storage requirements and vendor software updates, enforce data governance, and ensure recovery is maintained.
Participate in quality assurance and develop test application code in a client‑server environment.
Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance.
Maintain documentation of database structures and processes.
