THE ROLE The Design Director, Womens is a key creative leader responsible for shaping and elevating Thom Brownes Womens collection across runway and commercial product. This role translates the brands vision into a cohesive, modern expression of tailoring and luxury, while leading the womens design team and partnering cross-functionally to bring each season to life with precision and integrity. Reporting to the Senior Design Director, Mens & Womens, this position drives creative execution across core categories including tailoring, outerwear, wovens, flou, and eveningwear, ensuring consistency, innovation, and the highest standards of craftsmanship. Lead the development and execution of the Womens runway and commercial collections from initial concept through final sample approval Oversee the design and development of key womens categories including tailoring, outerwear, wovens, flou, and eveningwear Translate seasonal concepts into a cohesive collection through strong direction in silhouette, proportion, fabrication, and detailing Develop and present creative concepts, sketches, and seasonal research that align with the brands vision and standards Lead, mentor, and develop the womens design team, providing creative direction and supporting professional growth Manage the Womens design calendar and oversee the teams day-to-day priorities to ensure all design milestones are met Coordinate design reviews, concept presentations, fittings, and show preparation materials Foster a collaborative and high-performing creative environment within the design team Partner closely with the Studio Director, Atelier, and Product Development teams to ensure design integrity, fit, material selection, and construction standards are maintained Lead and participate in fittings, providing clear direction on silhouette, proportion, and garment construction Collaborate with Production, Merchandising, Sales, Press, and Archive teams to ensure alignment between creative direction and business objectives Maintain strong communication across departments throughout each stage of development Support runway show preparation, including collection editing, fittings, and presentation materials Help oversee design development for special projects, including celebrity dressing and editorial opportunities Ensure all designs reflect Thom Brownes creative vision and maintain the highest luxury and craftsmanship standards Conduct ongoing research into fabrics, techniques, construction methods, and industry developments Utilize Thom Browne archives as well as seasonal research to inform design development and innovation Contribute to the long-term creative evolution of the Womens collection while maintaining the brands distinctive aesthetic THE IDEAL CANDIDATE 810+ years of experience in womens design, with exposure to luxury runway collections Experience leading or mentoring designers, with the ability to provide clear creative direction and support team development Strong expertise across key categories including tailoring, outerwear, wovens, flou, and eveningwear Solid technical knowledge of garment construction, fit, and fabrication, with confidence participating in fittings Demonstrated ability to translate creative concepts into cohesive, brand-aligned collections A refined eye for proportion, silhouette, and detail, with an understanding of modern luxury aesthetics Experience partnering cross-functionally with atelier, product development, merchandising, and production Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities within seasonal timelines Clear communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate ideas and give constructive feedback Collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to work effectively across teams WHAT WE OFFER YOU Competitive compensation. Salary Range is $140,000 - $180,000 + target bonus.
