Substation Physical Engineer – Pittsburgh, PA
Overview Leidos offers innovative solutions for utility customers. We’re seeking a Substation Physical Engineer to design substation electrical projects for electric utilities ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV. This role will involve knowledge of digital logic, AC/DC circuits, and substation design.
Hybrid Schedule Hybrid schedule available: 2‑3 days a week in the Pittsburgh office.

Responsibilities
Execute substation physical projects.
Communicate effectively with internal teams and clients to meet project needs.
Perform quality control checks on substation physical design projects.
Read and design substation physical drawings including one‑line, three‑line, plan‑section, foundation, and grounding drawings.
Create and check bill of materials for substation physical.
Attend site visits at customer locations.
Comply with quality control, safe work practices and maintain project scope, schedule, and budget.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
2+ years of substation physical design experience.
Experience with grounding studies, lightning/lighting studies.
Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with internal team and clients.
Ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
Collaborator and leader who works effectively in a team environment.
Self‑starter who works independently with minimal direction.
Strong analytical skills and proven problem‑solving ability.
High level of computer competency.
Willingness to travel to project/client sites and to Portland, OR as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Engineer Intern (EI) or EIT professional certification.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Working knowledge of protection and control design.
Experience with bus calculation.
Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS.
Master’s degree in related field.
Pay and Benefits Pay range: $69,550 – $125,725. Competitive compensation, health and wellness programs, income protection, paid leave and retirement.
