Director of Finance and Accounting / Chief Financial Officer Provide executive financial direction for a mission driven public power agency. Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (SMMPA) is a joint action agency dedicated to uniting and supporting public power communities by providing economical, reliable, and environmentally responsible wholesale energy and related services. Guided by our values of integrity, teamwork, innovation, and accountability, we are seeking a strategic and mission driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to serve as a key member of our executive leadership team. As CFO, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the Agency’s long term financial health and operational excellence. Reporting to the Executive Director & CEO, you will provide enterprise wide financial leadership while overseeing finance, accounting, financial planning and analysis, and human resources functions. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine strategic vision with handson leadership in a public power environment.

Our ideal candidate: Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university and 10 years of progressively responsible full-time employment experience in a finance/accounting position with at least five years of supervisory/leadership experience directing professional and support staff. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must be bondable. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred, and master’s in business administration (MBA) or related advanced degree desired. Strategic thinker with strong technical and analytical expertise. Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to diverse stakeholders. Demonstrated integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to continuous improvement.

Starting salary: $200,000 – $250,000, with possibility of advancement to $300,000 based on years of successful performance in the role.
