Overview Our client is seeking an experienced
Account Director
to lead high-value medical affairs and publications accounts within a global medical communications environment.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for strategic direction, financial oversight, client partnership, team development, and account growth. The successful candidate will bring strong consultancy capability, commercial acumen, and proven experience managing and mentoring teams within a medical communications agency setting.
The Role As
Account Director , you will take full ownership of account performance, ensuring strategic alignment, operational excellence, and long-term growth.
You will act as a senior strategic partner to clients, provide high-level consultancy, oversee financial health, and lead internal teams to deliver exceptional service and scientific communications.
Key Responsibilities Strategic & Client Leadership
Serve as senior strategic partner and primary client lead
Provide high-level strategic consultancy and marketing insight
Lead long-term account planning and ensure sustained growth
Proactively manage client relationships, resolving issues and anticipating challenges
Represent the client internally to ensure alignment and service excellence
Hold ultimate responsibility for account performance, profitability, and growth
Direct strategic and operational priorities across the account portfolio
Review and finalise business plans, budgets, and financial forecasts
Monitor account health and ensure delivery against objectives and brand requirements
Oversee resource planning in collaboration with cross-functional teams
Lead, mentor, and develop junior team members
Drive team performance, motivation, and accountability
Conduct regular performance reviews and objective setting
Foster a collaborative, high-performing account culture
Business Development & Growth
Identify and expand opportunities within existing accounts
Lead and support new business initiatives and pitch activity
Develop and present strategic proposals to clients and prospective partners
Contribute to broader company initiatives that enhance business performance
Requirements
Approximately 6+ years’ experience within a medical communications agency
Strong experience across medical affairs and publications
Proven track record of managing and mentoring junior team members
Demonstrated financial ownership and commercial accountability
Confident, credible client-facing presence
Strategic thinker with strong organisational and leadership skills
Ability to balance scientific understanding with commercial insight
