
Interim Director of Accounting - Real Estate

LaSalle Network has partnered with a Chicago real estate firm to identify an Interim Director of Real Estate Accounting for a contract-to-hire engagement. This Director will lead and strengthen a high-performing accounting function supporting a real estate portfolio primarily across commercial office, multifamily, and development assets.
This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who can immediately drive execution, elevate team performance, and improve processes while maintaining strong investor and operational reporting.
Pay rate for this assignment is between $70-$90/hour- commensurate with experience. This role will be downtown 4x a week hybrid. LaSalle Network contractors have the opportunity to enroll in benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance. This position will follow a 4x a week in office schedule.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, manage, supervise, and mentor an accounting team of 5+ employees, covering the full scope of accounting and property financial operations (including A/R, A/P, and lease accounting).
Oversee and remain hands‑on with monthly/quarterly close, including preparation and review of financial statements and investor reporting packages.
Ensure accurate and timely property accounting deliverables and strong coordination with internal stakeholders (asset management, property management, development, and leadership).
Identify team training needs, evaluate staff capabilities, and organize targeted trainings to close skill gaps and standardize best practices.
Manage corporate allocations and support the preparation of quarterly cash flow forecasts.
Drive process efficiency improvements and help develop/implement standard accounting policies and procedures.
Serve as a proactive, solutions‑oriented leader who anticipates issues and communicates clearly—internally and externally.
Required Qualifications
Real estate accounting experience is required
Demonstrated success leading teams of 5+ across accounting functions and financial operations.
Strong experience preparing and reviewing financial statements and investor financial packages.
Proven ability to assess teams, coach performance, and implement training and development plans.
Experience with corporate allocations and quarterly cash flow forecasting.
Bachelor’s degree (4‑year) in Accounting.
Yardi experience required, including P2P and Bill Pay modules
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Type: Interim Contract-to-Hire
Level: Director (will consider strong Senior Manager/Assistant Controller-level candidates ready to step up with relevant real estate leadership experience)
Start: ASAP / based on availability
Location: (Insert city / hybrid / remote expectations)
Duration: Interim contract with intent to convert (timing based on performance and business needs)
