Position Description We're growing rapidly and are looking for a Director of Consulting Services, for our Chicago Business Unit who is experienced in the utilities and energy industry. As the Director of Consulting Services (DCS) for the Utilities & Energy practice, you will be a strategic leader and operator who drives business growth, delivers high-value consulting engagements, and elevates our presence in a rapidly evolving industry. You will lead a seasoned consulting team, shape go-to-market strategies and expand client partnerships while delivering measurable outcomes that align with our clients' transformation priorities. This role requires a blend of expert industry knowledge, strong business development capability, and exceptional delivery leadership. This is a hybrid role, which requires someone local to our Chicago Office, who is willing to be on-site four days a week. Travel up to 25% throughout the territory of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Your future duties and responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Practice Growth

Lead, mentor, and grow a high‑performing team of 15+ consultants; nurture talent, drive capability development, and instill a performance‑oriented culture. Own P&L and program financials for the consulting services area, ensuring profitable growth, forecasting accuracy, and financial discipline. Develop and execute strategic plans that align with market trends, industry needs, and organizational goals.

Business Development & Pipeline Management

Build, own, and grow a sales pipeline with a target of $5M+ in new opportunities; demonstrate consistent year‑over‑year pipeline growth. Identify and cultivate strategic executive relationships within utilities and energy organizations to drive new logo acquisition and expansion within existing accounts. Lead pursuit strategies, response development (RFPs / Proposals), and executive presentations that convert prospects into clients.

Client Engagement & Thought Leadership

Serve as a trusted advisor to C‑Suite and senior leadership at client organizations, helping them navigate modernization, digital transformation, grid evolution, sustainability, and regulatory challenges. Own the delivery of consulting engagements, ensuring excellence in execution, outcomes delivery, client satisfaction, and measurable business value. Represent CGI at industry conferences, client forums, and thought‑leadership platforms to elevate the firm’s reputation and industry perspective.

Operational & Delivery Excellence

Ensure effective delivery governance across consulting projects including quality assurance, risk management, and profitability optimization. Collaborate with cross‑functional delivery teams, technical leads, and partner ecosystems to shape innovative, scalable solutions leveraging modern platforms and technologies.

Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role

10+ years of consulting and industry leadership experience primarily in the utilities and energy sector (electric, gas, water, or integrated energy markets).

Deep domain expertise with software and technology platforms commonly used in the industry (e.g., energy data platforms, grid modernization tools, enterprise systems, analytics, cloud/AI/IoT solutions).

Demonstrated business development success, with a proven track record of building and maintaining a pipeline of $5M+ and achieving annual revenue growth targets.

Experience managing P&Ls, financial performance, and program economics at scale.

Strong prior experience managing and motivating teams of 15+ professional consultants.

Ability to work onsite in Chicago or nearby client sites at least 4 days per week.

Excellent executive presence, communication skills, and capacity to influence at all organizational levels.

Preferred Qualifications

Existing relationships with utilities, energy producers, and regulated industry leadership.

Experience speaking at industry events and contributing to thought leadership in energy transition, digital transformation, or utility operations.

Knowledge of emerging trends such as distributed energy resources, grid analytics, or customer experience platforms.

Compensation Range CGI is required by law in some jurisdictions to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $141,200.00 - $278,000.00. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
