Job Description Camp Ten Trees seeks an Executive Director to lead the total operations of a radically inclusive justice-based summer camp for LGBTQ+ youth and youth from LGBTQ+ families. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced camp director or nonprofit leader to guide the strategic growth and development of this small but well-established organization. The Camp Ten Trees Executive Director's role is to uphold and implement the organization’s Mission, Values, and Commitment to Social Justice. The Executive Director is ultimately responsible for the planning, implementation, and management of the organization's infrastructure, fundraising, finances, year‑round programming, and supervision of paid staff. The Executive Director works independently and collaboratively with the Board of Directors, paid staff, contractors, and a diverse community of volunteers and youth leaders. The Camp Ten Trees Executive Director must possess superior management, organizational development, and problem solving skills; have a demonstrated understanding of the needs of LGBTQIA+ youth and youth from LGBTQIA+ and non‑traditional families; have a demonstrated understanding of the best practices of both organized camping and non‑profit organizations; and have strong skills in supporting and facilitating an organizational community guided by a commitment to social justice.
Reports to : President of the BOD
200 hours PTO annually, with rollover
10 paid floating holidays (To be taken at employee’s discretion on dates which do not interfere with camp operations)

Responsibilities Organizational Leadership
Collaborate with the Board of Directors to guide strategic development of the organization in a manner rooted in the organization’s Mission, Values, and Commitment to Social Justice
Represent the organization to the public both in‑person and online, including but not limited to fundraising events, prospective donor meetings, and professional networking opportunities
Determine and execute growth opportunities for the organization, including but not limited to program and personnel development, fund development and financial growth, and increased operational capacity
Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings and support the management of the Finance and Fundraising subcommittees
Establish relationships with peer organizations and external partners to support the efficacy of the organization’s mission and financial goals
Operations
Manage and oversee all ongoing operations, including programming, employee supervision, finances, fundraising, and administration
Manage compliance with the organization’s Washington State and federal non‑profit statuses, as well as all applicable laws and regulations related to the operations of the organization
Align facility and operating standards with ACA (American Camping Association) accreditation standards. CTT does not hold an active ACA accreditation but opts‑in to following all accreditation standards as a guide for best practices of safety and supervision of campers.
Coordinate the logistics of summer camp infrastructure, including, but not limited to, insurance, site rental, policies and procedures oversight, risk and safety assessments, volunteer training, and active supervision of the Program Director
Maintain the organization’s data, records, and office inventory to ensure accuracy, transparency, and accessibility
Manage public correspondence and outreach, including newsletters, website, physical and electronic mailing lists in collaboration with the Development Director
Fund Development / Financial Management
Design, implement, maintain, and evaluate a comprehensive fund development strategy annually that supports long‑term financial stability for the organization
Prepare and manage the total operational budget of the organization; oversee proper bookkeeping and all financial reporting in collaboration with the Board Finance Committee and external accounting firm
Manage and update all fund development related data, such as the fund development plan, individual donor records, grant application histories, fundraising event planning, etc.
Communicate with existing and prospective donors and foundations in a timely, authentic and compelling manner
Identify and attract potential major donors, grant funders, and foundations that align with the organization’s mission and values and support organizational growth objectives
Hire, supervise, support, and evaluate the Program Director and Development Director and cover their responsibilities in their absence
Understand and comply with all applicable labor laws, including processes for hiring, pay, breaks and termination
Support Program Director’s recruitment, training, and management of volunteer staff by: Actively assisting in recruitment when needed; Advising on recruitment strategy and organizational structure; Reviewing training curriculum and plans to assure adequate preparation of staff; Supporting volunteer training and appreciation
Assist with board recruitment, ongoing skills development, and education as necessary
Program Support
In collaboration with the Program Director, develop, implement, and evaluate Camp Ten programming and strategically lead the growth and development of year‑round programs
Support the Program Director in ensuring maximum accessibility for campers that wish to participate including financial access, disability accommodations, and behavioral and medical support plans
Oversee all program and execution created by the Program Director by: Reviewing and approving program changes, schedules, volunteer responsibilities, and curriculum prior to program implementation; Ensuring proper implementation of policies and procedures in alignment with site rental agreements, insurance requirements, and general risk and liability; Advising on best practices for program design to increase inclusion and optimize participant outcomes
Oversee Program Director in conducting risk and safety assessments across programs and provide active assistance in crisis management as needed

Location / Scheduling Requirements
Able and willing to be physically present in Seattle up to 20% of the time during off‑season (September – May) for partnership meetings, in‑person staff and volunteer connections, and special events (Applicants residing outside commuting distance to Seattle will be equally considered, however travel compensation is not available from the organization at this time)
Able and willing to be physically present in Seattle majority of pre‑season (80% or more of June and July) to support summer camp prep and Pride month fundraisers
Able and willing to be physically present on‑site for the majority of August (80% or more) at a location approximately 2 hours outside of Seattle
Able to work remotely in a highly independent role, effectively supervise staff remotely, and be available for occasional evenings and weekends both virtually and in‑person
Education & Experience Qualifications
Three or more seasons experience supervising a camp program required (five years and residential camp experience strongly preferred)
Two or more years supervising paid employees required; experience with legal and ethical hiring practices, labor law compliance, and Human Resources best practices strongly preferred
Prior experience in budget management required; strongly preferred experience with budget creation, bookkeeping, grants management, and other high‑level fiscal responsibilities
Two or more years of experience with volunteer management, donor engagement, fundraising, and/or grants management strongly preferred
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required (ie Education, Psychology, Recreation and Leisure, Nonprofit Management)
Skillset Qualifications
Demonstrated understanding of the best practices in organized camping, youth development, and nonprofit leadership
Highly organized, independent, and detail‑oriented with an ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at once
Highly developed skills in interpersonal relationships, communication (both written and verbal), problem solving, public speaking, and group dynamics
Familiar with best practices for youth development, trauma‑informed care, restorative justice, and universal design/inclusive programming highly preferred
High proficiency in GoogleSuite required; Proficiency in the following platforms strongly preferred: QuickBooks Online, HubSpot, CampBrain, GiveLively, Candid, GrantWatch, and/or other CRMs & Grant Databases
Ability to work independently and as part of a team with people of all ages, cultural backgrounds, and abilities
Current First Aid and CPR certification (within 60 days of hire)
Must clear a federal background & sex offender registry check, to be repeated annually
Authorized to work in the United States of America
Valid driver's license & reliable transportation
