Product Ops / Technical Writer
Live in Ames, Ames, IA, United States
About the Role
We’re looking for a Product Ops / Technical Writer to help the product team operate more effectively and ensure our users have clear, helpful documentation. You’ll sit at the intersection of Product, Engineering, and Customer Success — keeping processes running smoothly, maintaining internal and external knowledge bases, and writing the content that helps athletic directors, coaches, and families get the most out of Bound. This role can start as an internship with a clear path to full-time for the right candidate. Key Responsibilities
Write, edit, and maintain user-facing documentation including help articles, release notes, FAQs, and onboarding guides Create and manage internal product documentation — process guides, feature specs, decision logs, and playbooks Support product launch readiness by coordinating release communications across Product, Engineering, Customer Success, and Sales Help streamline product team workflows — managing backlogs, tracking OKRs, maintaining roadmap artifacts, and organizing product rituals (standups, retros, planning) Build and maintain templates, dashboards, and tools that help the product team move faster Translate technical concepts into clear, accessible language for non-technical audiences (school administrators, parents, coaches) Gather and organize user feedback from support tickets, NPS surveys, and feature requests to inform product decisions Required Qualifications
Strong writing and editing skills with an eye for clarity, structure, and tone Ability to understand technical concepts and translate them for a general audience AI-first mindset — you’re excited to use AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini to streamline documentation, draft content, organize information, and improve team workflows Organized and detail-oriented — you can manage multiple workstreams without dropping the ball Comfortable with tools like Notion, Confluence, Jira, or similar project management and documentation platforms Self-starter mentality — you’ll identify gaps and propose improvements, not just execute tasks Interest in product management, operations, or technical communication as a career path Bonus: experience in education, school administration, or SaaS environments Bonus: familiarity with product analytics tools, API documentation, or content management systems Bound does not operate on a traditional “routine” workweek. When work needs to be done, we collaborate to get it done — whether that’s in the morning, afternoon, evening, or occasionally on weekends. At the same time, Bound supports flexibility for personal needs, family events, appointments, and time to recharge. Employees are trusted to manage their schedules while meeting deadlines and delivering high‑quality work. Work Location
