Brief Summary of Job Duties Under the general direction of the Assistant Dean of the Graduate Division, the STDT Advisor Supervisor 2 is responsible for the overall operation of a functional unit that oversees student academic services for the Graduate Division, serving over 3,000 graduate students in approximately 50 graduate programs with over 85 degrees, credentials, and interdisciplinary emphases. The Supervisor has expert knowledge of current university degree requirements and policy, procedures, and precedents related to graduate matters, and serves as a compliance officer on graduate education policy, acting as a key advisor to Graduate Division senior management and general campus on student and academic program policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Manage academic services for graduate students, including long‑term planning, policy implementation, and coordination with campus offices and departments.

Oversee and hire, train, supervise, and evaluate academic advising staff and graduate advisors.

Provide counseling and liaison services for high‑risk students, overseeing case management systems and coordinated support services.

Manage the graduate student information system, collaborate with ITS on data retrieval and dissemination, and ensure data integrity.

Interpret and analyze policy, advise on complex academic matters, and prepare reports on graduate policy and trends.

Assist Graduate Division commencement planning and coordination.

Perform other duties as assigned and represent the division on campus committees.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

4‑6 years of experience in higher education administration, student services, or academic roles.

1‑3 years of experience interpreting academic policy and procedures, compiling and analyzing student academic information and records.

Strong professional ethics and discretion.

Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects, set goals, establish efficient procedures, track progress, meet deadlines and performance targets.

Strong written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with graduate students, faculty, staff, and other campus offices.

Preferred Qualifications

1‑3 years of experience in graduate program administration.

1‑3 years experience with student information systems/databases.

1‑3 years supervisory experience.

Special Conditions of Employment
