Marketing & Communications Intern

This team member must be located within 40 miles of Blue River PetCare's Chicago corporate office to work a hybrid schedule (1 S. Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60606). The Marketing & Communications Intern supports day-to-day communications tasks that help engage internal and external audiences as well as plays a key role in supporting organization-wide marketing programs and initiatives. This role works closely with the Communications Manager, project leaders, and other internal teams to assist with creating and distributing clear, timely, and engaging content. Responsibilities include drafting basic communication pieces, copy editing, supporting newsletters, assisting with internal events and PR activities as well as providing administrative support for major department projects. The ideal intern is a motivated, detail-oriented communicator with strong writing skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment. Basic Skills and Qualifications Strong writing, editing, and communication skills Excellent organizational habits and attention to detail Ability to collaborate well with teammates and meet deadlines Familiarity with email platforms, template builders, or project management tools is a plus (e.g., Workshop, Stripo, Monday.com) Knowledge of AP Style Interest in the veterinary or healthcare industry is a plus but not required Highly professional, with strong work ethic and self-direction Technical Skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Willingness to learn email marketing and template-building tools Basic understanding of project management or willingness to learn Basic design skills and experience with Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud are helpful but not required Ability to produce original content without the assistance of AI writing tools Education Requirements Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field Successful completion of introductory courses in marketing, communications, journalism, or equivalent Must possess portfolio of previous work and/or writing samples Physical Requirements Ability to remain seated for extended periods Ability to move around the office to access supplies, equipment, etc. Ability to communicate effectively in person, via email, and by phone Ability to use a computer, keyboard, and mouse regularly Ability to lift up to 30 lb Salary Range: $19-22 per hour Blue River PetCare team members are eligible to participate in the discretionary annual bonus program.
