This opportunity is for a talented illustrator to join a personal comic project focused on developing the layout and pencils for a new sci‑fi concept. The project is a collaborative effort with an experienced art generalist who has a background in comics, particularly in inking, compositing, and graphic design for a YA paranormal mystery pitch zine. The selected illustrator will play a key role in shaping the visual narrative and style of the comic, working closely with the project lead to bring fresh ideas and dynamic storytelling to life. The arrangement is hybrid, based in Los Angeles, with no travel required.
Responsibilities
Collaborate on the visual development of a sci‑fi comic concept, focusing on layouts and pencil work
Interpret scripts and story outlines to create engaging page compositions and character designs
Work iteratively with the project lead to refine visual storytelling, pacing, and panel flow
Incorporate feedback and adapt artwork to align with the creative vision of the project
Prepare clean, organized files suitable for subsequent inking and compositing stages
Skills and Requirements
Demonstrated experience in comic illustration, with a strong portfolio showcasing sequential art and character design
Proficiency in traditional or digital penciling techniques
Ability to collaborate effectively and communicate creative ideas clearly
Strong understanding of visual storytelling, composition, and pacing in comics
Familiarity with sci‑fi themes and the ability to conceptualize imaginative settings and characters
Based in Los Angeles or able to participate in a hybrid working arrangement; no travel required
